Thanks to Goldenwings! I called MIG and they insulated the shop for $1180 which included 2" on all walls where I was looking at around the same price doing it myself with only 1". It took them only 3-4 hrs to prep, spray and clean up. I'll post pics when I figure out how.:ashamed:

Do you have their number handy? I had a quote to do my attic (4 gabel walls and roof joists) for $3800. Now my attic is huge but I would think it isn't three times the size of your shop. I plan to do my attic and most of the first floor once its ready (hopefully before winter) and would like to find a cheaper outfit. I have looked into buying the equipment but to be honest, I don't like doing insulation and don't feel like getting into it just to compete with everyone else since it isn't something we would be doing on a daily basis. Currently we use the guys who gave me a quote to do any spray foam on job sites as its much easier to just sub it out but their the only local outfit I know of around this area.

That's the way we went on the walls for our polebarn - although I didn't do it myself - we hired it done.

As I recall, it was very cost effective - I think a good bit less than $2K to do the walls on a 42' x 72' barn to a height of probably 13' or 14' and depth of 7" - which yields a R-value of 27 for the walls. (One wall does have three 12' x 10' overhead doors tho' ...)

You can read a description of the process (with pictures) in my polebarn thread beginning with the following post:

Insulating the barn with spray-on cellulose insulation

The crew was in and out in less than 6 hours IIRC.

I'm glad we hired it done. I think spray-on "wet" cellulose is probably one of the most economical ways to go to

Have you noticed any corrosion problems?

Insulation

Been watching more videos on Youtube regarding spray foam insulation. Curious if anyone knows what the contractors use to 'scrape' the wall studs after spraying so that the drywall can be hung? Anyone got a link to whatever tool it is they use?

Just had my remodel/addition done. They used a long thin bladed hand saw. This was open cell foam. Waited about 30 seconds after spraying and cut it off. Amazing stuff: sprays on in a layer like a too wet roller, then 'whoosh' and it's done in 5-10 seconds. We'll see how economical it is (almost makes me want natural gas to go way up to justify the $).

Closed cell is supposed to be equivalently priced to open celled if you count it all by R value. Both are apparently not easy to judge absolute depth. I suspect that open cell is easier to judge because there is less R value per inch. We chose it because we wanted to know if we have any water leaks (closed cell seals itself better, therefor leaks don't drip through). It is weird having the attic considered conditioned space, as they spray the inside of the gable walls and the underside of the roof. They also seal up the roof and eave venting.
