GUN SAFE

some of these things are darn heavy!

I have a good HD furniture dolly, and me and a buddy had a hard time getting one of mine into the house.. even using rollers and cardboard on boards to slide the thing around.. i'd hate to try to get them up stairs.. :)

You are aware that that gunsafe won't stop a serious fire on paperwork? I use a concrete safe for the paperwork. The gunsafe will get very hot inside, the papers might even help ignite some of your wooden stocks. Of course, with out much air it should all just smolder? Concerning storage of ammunitons inside the save with the guns? How about a little in mags for emergency use? Will it blow out the fire or erupt and wreck the contents? Most of my ammo is in plain lockers so they would not develope pressure in the event of a fire eruption? Lets see what comes of this???

I can't think of a single gun that i store in my safes that is loaded.

I DO have loaded guns for acess, but not the ones in my gun safes.

i store my ammo in ammo boxes.. etc...

Ok here is an update on "Sturdy" safe prices:

15 gun - 27"x23"x60" - 5 gauge = $2,314

22 gun - 32"x24"x60" - 5 gauge = $2,431

26 gun - 36"x37"x60" - 5 gauge = $2,868

20 gun - 32"x24"x72" - 7 gauge = $2,815 (5 gauge not available on the 72" model)

All of these safes are between 800 and 1000 lbs.

Now I have to go see the "Fort Knox" executive, which is made of 3/16" steel.

The only thing I don't like about the Sturdy safe is it only has 4 active bolts, but they swear it can't be pried open.
Due to the flanged construction of the Sturdy door, it is so stiff that there is no practical way to pry it open. Moreover, the shut lines on the Sturdy door are so tight that you can't get a decent sized prybar in behind the outer steel. When I received my Sturdy RSC I was very impressed with the door fit -- you can not get a US dime in edgewise anywhere along perimeter of the door seam.

ps
When open, the door of the Sturdy RSC lifts up and off the pins. Now then, this can't be done in a casual manner, because the door on the units listed above weigh some 250+ pounds. But nevertheless, two or three able-bodied folks can pick the door off the safe body, and this in turn makes moving the overall safe into its final position that much easier. Note also that Sturdy uses external pin hinges, which allow the door to open much wider than internal hinges do.

Soundguy, I have male grandchildren, I would not dream of a loaded shotgun here.. I have one loaded pistol and then go to the safe. It has two mag fed rifles with mags in them. Pull the bolt and lets boogie...If in a fire i am sure they will be ruined, ever though they are fireproof, it depends on how deep the hot ash is or charcoal.Lying in ruins of charcoal I have doubt most of these cans will protect firearms, unless a lot of water hits them soon..

Then you have to worry about the contents being waterlogged as not all are waterproof or even resistant. :D

I'm really impressed with the sturdy safes.

Weapons waterlogged is correct, I had not seen any water tight safes. I bought mine to keep others from being able to use said weapons againist me or others. My primal fear is coming home and lookng down the wrong end of one of them. After the Kids in Joneboros, ark. took grandfather's guns and ambushed their classmates at school, I was pressed to buy it. Plus my neighbor was surpised when they attacked his safe..SO..??

i'm not sure what you meant about the male grandchildren??

In any case.. I decided to have no carpet or wood flooring in my house. it's ceramic tile throughout and block construction.. no rugs.

aside from a few bits of furniture.. not much burns inside my house. hopefulyl that and the water/fire proof safes will be enough.. and again.. no ammo in the safes.
