I am in the market for a 20 to 26 gun safe. So far I have looked at Mesa, listing for $2019 on sale $999. Cannon $1506 on sale $1104 and Amsec $2350 on sale $1674. All three are 1hour fire rated with 12 gauge and weigh about 600 lbs. All have free replacement if damaged due to fire or burglary. Does anyone own one of these, or know anything about them? I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Of the above, only the AMSEC is worth the money. That said, the best value in an RSC (residential security container, as these type of enclosures are NOT true tool-rated "safes") is from Sturdy Safe. No frills, 6 or 7 gauge steel thoughout, and REALLY stout door construction. You can pay for upgrades as you desire, there are a variety of options. Sturdy is made in USA and sells direct.

I have a Sturdy model 3627-60, owned it for two years now, and it is a tank. Read the info on their web page, at the very least it will help you separate the wheat from the chaff when shopping for an RSC. Make sure you are paying for a well-constructed RSC, and not just shiny paint and chromed surfaces.

I've had my Outdoorsman safe, made by Cannon, since 2001 and it's been great. Mine is model 23FBG, is 30 min rated at 1500 degrees, has the electric keypad lock. Mine weighs 750 lbs. and has been moved a couple of times and I use it very often - the door gets opened at least a couple times a week. I've never had any problems with the safe and I've had a battery (9v) last over 2 years at a time. I can't swear to it but I think mine is USA made. I have mine bolted down to my concrete slab in the house, in a corner. I keep approx. 25 long guns and a few handguns in it so it's probably over 1k lbs. I've read some bad reviews on Cannons in a couple places but have never experienced any problems with mine - knock on wood !!! By the way, the small Dri-rod works well in this size safe, even in Florida's high humidity/temps and the safe is pre-drilled for the cord.

Okay, as to bolting it down. I bolted mine that is how i found out the fireproofing is fire-rated sheetrock..My neighbor had his house hit. They jerked his steel mesh door off with a truck and entered. They hammered the safe enough to knock off the knobs and lock. They could not get in it with an axe. The safe man had to drill it to open and remove the contents...He said" bolt it upright and at least make them work harder on it, usually an upright remained shut, because it took more effort to hammer it"??He made sense to me?I saw the safe, it looked like a monkey and football..Neighbor had to pay freight for a replacement safe, but he still had his guns?

Most 1k and under safes will keep the smash and grab guys and your kids out, but if you don't have an alarm system or other basic security measures in place, in a short amount of time someone with some simple tools and basic knowledge could break in easier than you may realize.

Like I said, it'll keep the kids and the guys on meth out, but give someone who has an idea of what to do and 15 minutes, and they're in. You'll find that the case with most safes you can buy at Costco or Tractor Supply. There are numerous pics floating around on the Winchester safes.

appears that one only has locking lugs on the door side.

all mine have top, and bottom and door.. one has the hinge side too.
