Tractor
Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
Looks like I'm going to be upgrading to a larger tractor - from a L3400 Kubota to a JD 4520 - from 5' width to I think 6'.

I expect I could keep my 68" Meteor blower and 5' Woods bush-hog but not covering the rear with the woods is a pain along fence lines.

I had forgotten how expensive blowers were! Can you folks see any large downside of staying with my current blower? I don't know what up the gearbox is rated for but I think the recommended hp is around 30.

You can always add a small deflector to both sides of the blower so you gat a 72-74" pickup with the blower.....i dont see why it wouldnt work....worth a try at least.

I was going to try that with my old 60" blower but i ended up selling it with my old tractor instead. And those blowers are mucho $$$$. especially since the larger tractors recommend heavier duty blowers. as for the bush hog, you can try to offset it to one side slightly with the 3 point to try and allign it with one side. Maybe this will work...maybe not. At least 6' bush hogs are pretty cheap.

Instead of upgrading, just get a second tractor. :D :D

I love spending other peoples money.
Hmm maybe I should run office. :D :D

Well... that's not a joke because I AM also getting a second tractor :)

I was looking for a second tractor before I ran into this JD4520 - to use to pull a manure spreader once or twice a year. I also have a bit of a fetish for some classic tractors and have always loved the Massey Fergusons. Found this MF 255 that seems to be in great shape with 2500 hours. It is on its way next Tuesday.

To be honest, If this JD had come along earlier I would have held up on that purchase and stayed with just one tractor for longer (and hoped I could borrow a tractor). I had not put down the deposit but I had given the dealer my word that I would purchase the MF and the go ahead to do a few odd repairs and servicing. It does seem like a nice unit.

The JD 4520 just seems like too good a deal to pass up and if I am looking for a tractor in that size with a cab, this seems like a good time to do it. I guess I talked myself into it.

If I don't really need to spend switching my blower then I would like to hang on to it as new 74 / 78" once are pricing out at over $3500!
