Hey, Guys!!

I am new to TractorByNet.com. I have a John Deere 410-D which has several problems. I am hoping that we can all add to our skill and knowledge through solving these problems.

First issue is that my JD-410 runs well at idle but when I attempt to raise the bucket or operate the backhoe it kills the engine.

I have changed the filters and the hydraulic pump is factory-new....maybe 6 hours On it. Also, if I drive it about 100 yards, the engine seems to bog down, tractor becomes slower and eventually dies. It seems as though pressure is backing up and eventually, the engine quits as the hyd pump pressure is such that the engine cannot turn it.

Any ideas on where to begin looking for the problem?

What are you using to determine the "pressure is backing up" - a pressure gauge?

"It runs well at idle" Does it respond to a higher throttle position and run at high idle at all?

I'm not familiar with your particular tractor but just looking for more general information to possibly help diagnose the problem.

The tractor, a JD-410, runs well at all RPM's. It seems to be normal in all respects until it has warmed up slightly...operated 2-4 minutes and at that time, attempting to operate the hydraulic system seems to put a strain on the engine and it will die. It will restart immediately and the engine seems to be perfectly normal....until one of the levers is moved and again, it will kill the engine.

Also, the tractor will bog down and die if it the shift lever is in engaged.

I am only assuming that it is the pressure since the load kills the engine but it may be that the pressure is normal and it is the pump that is malfunctioning. I do not have a pressure gauge and the nearest tractor service is 190 miles away.

I recall that about a week (4 hours operation) after the new hydraulic pump was installed, I started the engine and the pump made a squealing noise as though it was dry. This noise lasted about 5 seconds and then quit. Over the last 8 months, I could not detect any difference in the operation.

I am hoping that someone in here has had or has seen the same problem and will immediately recognize the cause.
