We came home one night and saw a pig in the road. My wife herded it into our fenced front yard and called the police. The police called the neighbor and the neighbors came over with a little trailer to haul the pig back home. Some bacon experiment on their part to teach their kids where food comes from. We have also caught our share of dogs and horses from other neighbors. They go into our fenced yard or small pastures for later retrieval. I hope if our critters get loose the neighbors capture and contain for us. Well they have captured our dogs when they escaped so I guess I have good neighbors. The cattle across the street have never escaped but they have fences that are new, maybe 15 years old or less.

Early one morning a couple of years ago, one of my fences was damaged due to an unknown vehicle plowing through it. One of my neighbors called me alerting me to the problem. It took me about 10 minutes to get dress, jump in my pickup, and get to the damaged fence. Within 30 minutes, three of our neighbors helped me round up two of my steers that were roaming loose. They even helped me patch the fence and replace three broken fence posts. Around here in the piedmont region of NC, we all try to help each other when in need. My wife bakes pies and brownies and takes them to our neighbors throughout the year. And the other wives do likewise. FOOD FOR THOUGHT:"Nothing can be asked of whom nothing is given." Happy Tractoring.:tractor:

Strange aggressive dog, what if it was a kid sitting on the bench to be safe? a dog on a leash is undercontrol, off the leash its not in anyones control. Which means deal with it how you will. My dogs have been on leash and bit, reason why I got my carry permit. I have been bit, all shepards.

Well I don't have a dog in this race ... but when I asked how many bad neighbors you had I was only wondering about the neighborhood.

Clown is lucky that the dog was not on my property messing with any animal I have, cat(s) dogs, cows, calves, mules, horse's, chickens, pigs. I would not fire a warning shot.

I like CarDoc own my property and I will do on my place as I see fit ... including consuming as much beverage as I want, when I want and I have been known to pee off my porch!!!

I am fortunate and have good neighbors ... we all feel the same about our dogs ... if my dog wondered over and chased my neighbors cat or anything I would expect them to handle it ... and they know I will do the same.

Now livestock is a different matter, fences do get holes and animals do get out ... when this happens we call each other and help each other put them back where they belong.

BTW ... the law has never been to my place nor have the neighbors or myself ever called them, we just talk things out.

Thank you sir I am appreciative of your input! :)

Yes you are exactly right I did buy out of the city for the peace and quiet 24 years ago and we all owned our places and we all get along great we still do the problem areas are 1/2 - 1 mile away but close enough to spill over into our space.

On the north of my property there is 48a CRP and south is 320 of working crop land we are in a row of houses about a 1/2 mile long maybe 7 all totaled it was sub-divided out of the CRP ground before there was CRP fwtw.

I am the guy that clears the driveways when the snow plow blocks everybody in and comes around during the summer months once the ground is just dry enough to fluff their driveways and blade them.

I am also the guy everyone even a few from the "ranch" part of the sub-division comes too for backup when they an extra voice at a county commissioners meeting to settle a disagreement with the county.

I am also the guy who spent countless hours at zoning meetings with the commissioners hashing out a realistic zoning changes that they were in process of redoing anyway now they have a cohesive set of regs that corresponds to 9 other county's in respect to large animals in the 3 mile zone we have none in place now.

In fact it deals with this county wide they just need to finalize them the police dept is 100% behind my work on that it gives them a law with teeth so they are not just out cowboying these big animals for nothing they are hurting people on the highways seems like every week.

I am also the guy who comes over and jumps your car or helps you get the mower running plus I have been known to give most of my garden away all summer and then realize we dont have much for us did it again this year.

I have cleaned up my half of the block buy buying up the abandoned and run down 1/2a plots I could afford to buy and cleaned them up. I use one next door for my garden its got a nice 9'x11'x6' tall underground storm/bomb shelter and a new water well and its a good place to keep my tractor attachments and we store stuff in the trailer house.

Everyone that lives near or drives by regularly even the commissioners have commented how much better the neighborhood looks and its a lot quieter and a whole lot less trash blowing around.

I have helped my neck of the area retain the marketability of our homes somewhat there are a few folks I know from the "ranch" area have their homes for sale over this mess and they literally cant give them away but they are paying taxs on what they are quote worth not what they could sell for its sad for them.

This is why there is so much anger over the animals always on the loose if it was just now and then nobody would care most of us come from farm backgrounds anyway we all love animals we hate people that dont take care of them.

Oh an update; Last night I went to JD where my wife works and drove by where these horses came from they are right on the highway. Come to find out from the sheriff deputy I know the guy he was nearly mauled to death last year by a pit bull in his front yard in front of his wife and kids came so close to bleeding out the para medics didnt know if he would make it to town anyway guess where he used to live..... yup over in the "ranch" part of our neighborhood anyway he moves about a mile and a half away down on the highway and owns these horses....

Well they were out AGAIN people you have to be feeling the frustration.

Did I miss the "strange aggressive" part? A dog galloping in the direction of a cat is neither strange nor aggressive. No one dislikes free roaming dogs more than me, but let's not exaggerate.

I had determined right away this 100# cross between a jack russel and greyhound was not aggressive twords us but beyond that I had every reason to believe he COULD have been a threat to my pets especially a partially deaf and blind one 30 feet from where he took a dirt splash in the face to turn him around.

That is the letter of the law my belief there is a threat and the deputy watched quite a bit of it once she got onto my property she told the clown to get a handle on the dog also which he ignored.

He may not have had enough ropes I dont remember exactly wasn't my problem but I know for sure the dog didn't have a collar but later the deputy put him in the patrol car once he came back on the road.

I look at it like this if you move to the country expect livestock to get out and get on your property and if you don't like it get back to the city and get a life. If you was in louisiana you would have no complaint since you live in the country you must build a fence to keep the clown's horses off of your property and you would be in jail for trying to shoot his dog that wasn't attacking you because again you must have a fence to keep it at which you probally dont so

Sucks to be you sounds like.

There is no open range here and I am NOT in Louisiana what does that have to do with me because you live there?

Its up to the animals owner to fence them in and re-read this thread I DO have fences and there is a lot more to it than your kneejerk reaction to an internet post.

Quoting myself-

And if someone wonders why my wife didn't get the cat its because she was in the opening in our FENCE they went thru so they couldn't get back INTO the yard where the cat was the dog was another story.

And one more thing since you mentioned me going to jail -That isn't the case for any property owner in my state we all have the right to defend our property with no exceptions. Plus I am a licensed CCH I can defend myself and my property and any life I feel is in jeopardy anywhere in my state and several states around me except restricted ares like court houses and schools no one ever gets shot there. rolleyes

btw There was a deputy 200 feet from me when I took my shot to scare the dog not KILL and I am still here and still would be if it had gone for the worse some dog owner just would have been having a doggy funeral and I am thanking God it didn't go there which is the jist of this thread for the hard of reading types.

no it don't suck to be me i love louisiana

and your the one that gets all hostil because someone doesn't agree with would if you shoot somebodys dog down here you would be next

how did the animals get on your place since you had a fence

it seems like you live your whole life in the city and moved to the country and now trying to make the country like the city that is what has happened to all the rural areas people like you move to them and start causing trouble with everyone and complaining about livestock that is what is in the country if you don't like it then move back to the city

so when you go hungry because you cant get nothing to eat because all you city folks passing all these laws on the poor old farmer dont cry

My question is this, Are you absolutely positive that the dog belongs to the clown or could it be that it belongs to one of your great suffering neighbors and got out, spooked the horses and the clown was secretly hoping that you would shoot it while he was trying to round up the horses. Just asking in case there's another slant to the story.
