Whats up with this gear oil?

Interesting, (globs) as I just yesterday transfered the balance of a 5 gal pail into a gallon containet and noticed a glob of something slip thru the funnel.
Have not investigated yet but sure am curious.

Every gear oil or hydrualic fluid I see looks about like motor oil, maybe a little different color or thickness though. Maybe someone with some more experience can chime in on the globs of stuff.

looks like could be water globs in it as well... perhaps from setting?

If you hadn't said that was fresh fluid, I would have guessed it was a jar of marmalaid(sp?). I'm just thinking out loud here, but was the fluid defective to start with? Looks like it may have already been defective and that caused the problem. Maybe someone with some more experience will chime in.

I've never tried it with oils but if you suspicion water in your fuel, even if mixed and not settled, pour a little of red food dye into a container with the suspicious fuel and the red food dye will turn any water, even small drops, red. Whenever I refueled aircraft at smaller airports I'd have the first gallon of fuel sprayed into a clean white plastic bucket and sample for water, especially jet fuel.

Regarding using alcohol in some hydraulic systems, especially those that use MIL-H-5606 hydraulic fluid, alcohol is very bad news!! Even cleaning hydraulic system components with alcohol that has dried and then using MIL-H-5606 Hydraulic Fluid with those components can cause future failures.

Just a FYI
