YES BABY GRAND I DO HAVE THE HST WHICH MAKES THINGS ALOT EASIER WHEN USING THE SMALLER TRACTORS IMHO. I WILL BE SURE TO GET A SLIP CLUTCH WHEN I PURCHASE IT, THAT BEING SAID I DON NOT KNOW HOW TO INSTALL LET ALONE SET UP AND WORK A SLIP CLUTCH BEING THAT NONE OF MY PTO MACHINES HAVE EITHER SLIP CLUTCH OR SHEAR PIN IM PRETTY SURE. SO IF SOMEBODY COULD HELP ME OUT WITH THIS. AND I DO HAVE ANOTHER ? I HAVE THE 3038E WHICH SIZE IF AND WHEN I DO PURCHASE A TILLER SHOULD I GET AND ARE THERE DIFFERENCES IN TINES AND SUCH? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP SO FAR

I didn't think you were. Sounds like your use would be the same as mine. I want a 84" in a BAD way.

It's possible that there may be better, but I doubt there's a better tiller FOR THE PRICE than a King Kutter II. Mine (72") is 9 years old now. First season it got hammered....I bought it to restore pasture land on my farm. That ground was compacted, and has limestone rock shelf just inches under the surface. That made plowing not an option. So I used the tiller on 30+ acres. It must have hit rock a zillion times. Made the tractor bounce a few times! Not so much as a whimper out of the tiller. It's been used a LOT since. Several members of the family borrow it every year to do gardens, as well as quite a bit of use on my place. It's done enough work to wear out one complete set of tines, and is well on the way to wearing out set #2. And ZERO mechanical issues.

Paint isn't "pretty", but it's a tiller, not a new Corvette.

I'm hard to please when it comes to spending money....Not much stuff lives up to my expectations. And I'm not a big advocate of King Kutter in general, BUT, Their KKII series of tillers are all that AND a bag of chips IMHO.

I agree with everything this guy said!!!

I don't like King Kutter... but I love their 6' tiller!!!! And their box blade is pretty good too... especially if you find one used!

I agree with the others and would suggest the 72" KingKutterII with slip clutch. I have the Deere 673 which would also be a good choice but is more expensive and if I had it to do again I would consider the less costly King Kutter II.

JohnDeereZach - I've got a 3038e also. I picked up a 60" tiller from TSC that was made by Tarter. Depending on geographic location, local TSC stores sell either King Kutter or Tarter tillers under their County Line label. They look nearly identical & should come with a slip clutch equipped PTO shaft as standard equipment.

Mine works fine for me & normally doesn't load the 3038e down at all. I did manage to snap off one tine the other day (fracture line ran through the bolt holes) - probably caught a rock at just the right angle. Usually it just shrugs off even head sized rocks!

The tillers are made with some heavy steel & it does add a lot of ballast to the rear. Expect the front end to feel "light" when maneuvering even if you have the 305 loader. I run in 4x4 to help with the steering.

so the tiller comes with the slip clutch? and nikdfish did u have to get a longer top link for the tiller since the one that comes with the 3038e is short that i have found. so the 60" covers the tires and is probably the best match for the tractor?

If you go with a 72" tiller you will overlap the tires more and be able to get a better finish. The larger tiller won't be a problem for you either as you can vary the forward speed of the tractor to suit the soil conditions. This will give a better chance to maximize the use of your tractor.

I use tillers frequently in my work and can run the Deere 673 with the economy pto setting most of the time with my 4520. My older 820 runs the same tiller in standard pto setup without issues and is 31 pto hp. So I think this would also work for you.

My BIL has been running a 72" KK II tiller behind his JD 790 for several years now with no problems at all.
