Dirt Moving FEL Lacking Power

WOW, I had no idea that water was so much heavier than gas or diesel...6 and 7(ish).
Gen. Lee asked if the forks are clamp on....Yes, and they probably weigh 50 lb EACH.
the BUCKET weight must not be counted against its limit as it weighs almost a thousand pounds itself.
Are there larger bucket cylinders that would provide more lift or is that stressing too many other things?

Thanks

Yep, way overweight plus the fact that the load is too far forward

Water, @ 8.34/gallon and 150 gallons is 1251lbs

Plus those plastic/caged tanks usually have a tare(empty) weight of 150ish

So you were trying to lift 1400lbs @ 24" forward of your cutting edge.:confused2:

Your 1050lb loader rating, is that @ the pins? if it is, you only have about 800lb lift at the bucket edge, and maybe ~600 on the forks.

So you have a few options:

1. Reduce the load to 600ish. That would be about 54 gallons.
2. Ditch the bucket and get pallet forks that go on in place of the bucket. This will move the load back closer to the pins, and probabally give you around a 900lb capacity. 90 gallons
3. Get a set of 3PH pallet forks. Your tractor has a 3000lb rear lift capacity. You could prpbabally lift a full tote this way.

I wouldnt go with bigger cylinders. The loader is probabally not designed for it as you suspect. Plus, larger cylinders mean more lift force, but proportionally slower as well. If you increase lift 40%, it will be 40% slower.

Boeing

An imperial gallon 8.35lbs and metric 10lbs

So depending if your North or South of the border...

US gallon 8.35 lbs, Imperial is 10 lbs. Nothing metric about that.:D

Thanks guys, I can't use 3pt forks, they will not go up to the level of my army surplus trailer to lift the water tanks off. I have clamp on forks so it would be another engineering feat to remove the bucket and figure out how to use forks....or buy more.
Guess, I'll just accept smaller gallon loads....
Thanks again.
(Fun is when you fuel a plane in liters, measure the load in pounds and pay in lire.......ah, the days of Pan Am.)

I have same questions with my L-3010. The loader is rated at 1058 lb. I have bolt on forks to lift pallets and such. Having no water on my land i bought water tanks to trailer to a nearby creek, fill and lift off the trailer with the tractor FEL.
Water weighs about 6lb. Per gallon, the tanks are large but plastic and cased in an aluminum cage...guessing 60 lb. The loader forks weigh about 50 lb,..
I put about half a tank of water...150 gal. roughly 900 lb, plus the tank and forks... I'm guessing right at 1000lb. and the FEL just hissed when I tried to pick it up.
I drained about 50 gal. out,, reducing the weight to approx 700 lb. HISS....i had to drain down to about 75 gal before it would ever so slowly lift the tank.
I also tried tilting the load UP...hiss.
Is the loader weak or are the forks projecting the weight too far out to lift much weight?
ideas???
thanks

You have more than one tote, right? Why not fill a tote on your trailer and then pump or drain that filled tote into an empty tote on the ground rather than try to unload the totes off of the trailer. Makes more sense to me than hauling almost empty totes around.

Your tractor has a designed psi rating that ensures front axle integrity when lifting objects with your FEL...
Some folks increase the psi pressure of their tractor by shimming the pressure relief valve in their hydraulic systems...
The increased pressure will allow your FEL to pick up more...
You also run the risk of blown seals and possible front axle damage...
I personally would not do it...

My Stoll FC 350 is an excellent match for my little 1720 NH...
NH rates my front axle capacity at 930#...
My FEL is rated to pick up around 1240# at the pivot point at around 2400 psi...
With the tractor factory set at 2133#, I only have a psi capacity rating that will pick up 1091#...
That's close enough for government work...

I did add a real nice set of bucket forks several months ago and have been very pleased with the results...
The key in picking up items is to get the bucket under the item as much as possible and curl the bucket under the mass...
I realize that is not possible in all cases...

Thanks Turby....and the other suggestion about transferring from one tank to another is good to. I do have 3 tanks, with one filled tank on the trailer I could gravity feed a ground level tank, and never have to lift anything heavy. or at least drain down to a liftable weight.
Good ideas, BRAINTRUST.....

I would not say that this was "fun"...
Gimli Glider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Gimli Glider is the nickname of the Air Canada aircraft that was involved in a notable aviation incident. On 23 July 1983, Air Canada Flight 143, a Boeing 767-200 jet, ran out of fuel at 41,000 feet (12,500 m) MSL altitude, about halfway through its flight from Montreal to Edmonton via Ottawa. The crew was able to glide the aircraft safely to an emergency landing at Gimli Industrial Park Airport, a former Canadian Air Force base at Gimli, Manitoba.[1]

The subsequent investigation revealed corporate failures and a chain of minor human errors that combined to defeat built-in safeguards. In addition, fuel loading was miscalculated through misunderstanding of the recently adopted metric system, which replaced the imperial system.
