The Delo Syn 5w40 was $18.39/gal at coscto...Do you really think it is the same ballpark as Redline or Amsoil?

Delo has a high ash content that kills DPF...Poor pour point but that is me.

Heck, I still love Lc20 on any diesel oil...The UOA are perfect!

It is superior to Amsoil, because you can buy it off the shelf. A couple of stores are starting to carry it Amsoil, but still, not enough exposure yet.

I agree 100%...I use Amsoil and lc20...change yearly no matter the hours..Same with cars..I have worked on enough airplanes to see what they call for...And hours and miles are not in the books! :)

What airplanes have you worked on to make the above comment?

I'm not sure most people really need the "best money can buy". I'm perfectly happy buying something off the shelf that's a cut above that will exceed my needs.

I totally agree with you, because that is how I feel too!!

Syn. oil in tractors or any construction equipment is a total waste of money. It is the carbon blow-by that screws up the oil in a hurry. And, diesel engines wither new or old have a small amount of blow-by. This is the reason I said syn. oil is a waste of big bucks. And, for a usage of maybe a hundred or so hours on the machine letting the syn. oil stay in the engine would be more damaging. I use syn oil in my hyw pick up but not on my construction equipments. On pick up I let the oil change with syn. oil to 7,000 miles. as for my equipment I use delo 15-40 and change every spring.

Where do you live?? How cold does it get?? Running 15W40 up here in the winter is not a good idea. That is the reason for the syn, the cold pour point.

True but large multiple oil filters and very low engine RPM also are in play. The only ones I have any experience with redlined at 1600-1800 RPM and were governed to 1500-1600 RPM in top gears(where they likely spend the majority of thier time). I am definitely of the belief the large oil capacity of heavy trucks plays the big role in their extended drain intervals.

The big Cummins and Cats are 8 and 900 cubic inches. I read once that oil was up to 40% of an engines cooling. I would hate to take a 16 litre Cat diesel pulling 40 tons over the Rockies in July, but had an oil crankcase capacity of 6 or 8 or 10 quarts. There is a lot of bearing surface, liner surface, and gearing in a large engine that is beating that oil to death. I think I want to lean in favor of the oil company's like Mobil, Chevron, Shell, etc, in making a trustworthy product, that keeps me running 30,000 miles before changes. Not just the fact that I had 10 gallons in there instead of 3 gallons.

Feel free to... Fill up your personal vehicle with dino oil and go 30,000 between oil changes. Or the CUT and go 1000 hours OCI. Let us know how that works for you. Me, I will follow the recomended intervals.
