I've read all of the threads here pertaining to weaponry on board a tractor-loaded, unloaded, private property, game wardens discovering a loaded chamber, steel shot vs. lead, etc, on and on.
Here's my design take on a legal short barreled 12 gauge shotgun scabbard enclosure that I have built so far-the design took months of measurement placement and planning and also being a snot nosed non-welder I enrolled in an adult evening welding class-eighteen weeks, three hours, one day a week for $100.00 including steel-so here it is to date. The bands are 1/4", the backbone is 3/8" and the shot shell tubes are 1" diameter gas pipe.
I will follow up with photos as it comes together, painted and mounted on my tractor.

VERY NICE!!!

I was just going to mount those ATV rubber grippy things to hold mine...

Now I feel inadequate...

Hey, I want to take one of those adult welding classes. How was it? Was it fun? did you learn enough to make the time invesment make sense?

Thanks in advance!

I'm still in the class and the scabbard mount is my first project. No standard tests or grades to fear, the instructor demos a different piece of equipment or technique at the beginning of each class and if you want to follow, then do so or go your own way. Most of the twenty students are there for certification and a future in welding. Me? Always wanted to learn how to weld-I bought a Hobart 210MVP MIG welder and haven't had time to cut the lawn in weeks.

We have some property about ten miles SW of Yosemite NP at 2500' elevation. Bear, deer, bobcat, turkey, gray fox, cougar, raccoon, all the usual low mountain wildlife all of which except the cougar have prominently showed up in front of my game cam. The shotgun is not intended for any of them, it's just that we are located in a very remote area where no one except for a couple of other land owners should be passing through.
