Gooseneck or Tag 10-12 ton trailer question

Without a question I'd go with the pintle hitch tag trailer behind the dump truck. With the 427 and 5+2 it will pull that with relative ease. Despite what mfg's claim, no pickups are really built to haul that kind of weight.

However, I wouldn't plan on pulling a pintle hitch trailer behind your pickup, even empty. They are so heavy on the tongue they will squat even a 1-ton pickup with nothing on them. With a load on it, even a small one, you are talking tongue weight in the thousands of pounds.

Thanks for the input guys!!

77 ce6500 427 gasser 5 speed split rear end. I'm the 3rd owner the previous owner bought it off a propane company (old propane truck) in 88 at 111K then they installed a new dump bed, doors, hood, grille and had it repainted to match the rest of the fleet. I bought it with 153K miles always stored inside and have every service record and receipt log since 88. Paid $3500 for it :D

Sounds like you got a good deal!

Here's the setup my contractor uses for his JD410C TLB- 3 axle tag trailer with pintle hitch

Looks like a low cost approach.

I agree. Since our 1989 F700 16' flat dump came with a pintle hitch we just picked up a pintle hitch trailer. It takes 40 acres to turn it around without backing. As long as the ground is not soft and I get enough weight on the hitch it can be pulled with ease.

If you're moving it once per week as you stated.....and hardly use the GN for other purposes.....and the dump truck has the splitter.....and the used tag trailer would be much cheaper......hmmm I might have to reverse my original position!
A cheap tag trailer would probably be best suited, me thinks those backhoe tires can get expensive!

haha hey all opinions are welcome!

Flusher how long is that trailer? I want to be able to spread the backhoe out and still have a little more room.

here is a online photo I found when surfing for econoline trailers.

Local guy has a dumptruck and pulls a GN trailer with it. He fabricated a hitch off the rear of the truck, and it pulls as if he was pulling a bumper pull trailer. Then he can still use the GN in his pickup too.

Most dump trucks in my area are hauling a pintle hitch bumper pull.
