best 9mm?

I own a few different handguns.....and in 9mm I like my Glock 19 for range use. Though....just today I bought a new Kahr CM9 which is mostly designed for concealed carry....and has some pretty good reveiws for a smaller sized gun (with a $230 lower price tag than their previous model PM9 - and still retains the all the good stuff!).

I'm looking forward to breaking this small gun in.:)

I'm hoping my supply of 147 grn Winchester Lawman or Hornady Critical Defense loads shoot well in this small gun. I have a few boxes of low cost ammo to break things in.....then we will find out.

Fit and function for you will be the most important. A gun you are not comfortable with will not be with you or available when you need it. Any gun in hand is better than not having it accessible when you need it.

I have a glock 19, spingfield XDM9, Taurus 709 and Ruger LCP 380 (to be replaced with LCP9 when the opportunity arises). The 19 and XDM shoot fantastic at the range, but are difficult for me to carry concealed. The Taurus is one the just fit good after a grip sleeve and gets the most concealed mileage.

Whatever you get, shoot it enough to be sure it is reliable. Even the "best" can be unreliable or need to be sent back to the factory for repair.

Had a Kahr MK9 about 10 years ago....very well built and accurate little pistol, but, boy! was it heavy for it's size!! (which is why I sold it a couple years ago...I'd wanted a pocket pistol).
Kahr used to recommend a 200 round break in for their guns...might still.
Good luck with it, Foggy!

I'm one of those who buys about the cheapest ammo I can find for shooting holes in paper. And I have .38 ammo, both Remington and Winchester 130 grain, that have a slightly flat nose. But I've not even seen any 9mm with a flat nose. All I've bought are round nose. And while I've used several different ones, all I have on hand right now are the Federal 9mm Luger 115 grain. I would like to find the 9mm with the slight flat spot on the nose because they cut a clean hole in the paper while the round noses tend to tear paper. Maybe I just haven't looked at expensive enough 9mm ammo.;)

Watch out tho.

Once you buy one you will buy another

and another

and another

and then it is too hard to choose a favorite.

Then you may have to move from revolvers to semi autos or vice versa

NICE Pool Table!

I asked one of my friends what 9mm he recommended and he said "Definitely a .357 or .40 Sig Sauer!"
From all the research I have done I would not be surprised if I bought a .45 and a revolver after I get my first gun. I am not too worried about stopping power for the first gun though. I will practice a lot and get some hardcore ammo.
I have 2 big dogs, a high tech alarm and I am way back in the woods. If someone breaks in to my house I will take it very seriously and react accordingly.
As far as this gun search I am going to head to the range soon so I can try a few out and see which ones I like.

I would agree on a S&W 686 in 357, I mean 9mm, I mean what is really the difference between 0.355 and 0.357? :D

IMHO, I would not only practice, but I would look for a local CCW or defensive handgun class. I see them locally; would guess they are available in a lot of areas.

One instructor locally, will teach both defensive weapons in both handguns and shotgun. He also has training for lowlight defense shooting(When will someone break in? 2am on a dark rainy night...). Those classes also review the local legalities of firing in a defensive situation.

Well worth the time and money...

Case length...more powder in a .357 Magnum round and more energy.

Oh, BTW, as per the original question, I would try all the 9mm's you can. But, I would keep an open mind, and try others too if you can.
