Yep, just like a 1911. The High Power doesn't go back as far as the 1911, but it goes back a lot of years...

Looking at the trigger, looks more like a DA especially compared to a 1911. So I always just assumed it was double action. When I look closer now, I see it doesn't quite have enough travel.
So I just read John Browning designed the high power but died before it ever went into production. I owned a 1911 for years before I realised it was designed by Browning

This thread was about a defensive weapon. I thought some might find this interest. From a local N. Calif instructor, defensive handgun. Especially, the last two paragraphs are good.
CCW Renewal Class Monday Oct 10 9-3 This will be a focus on working from the holster, so that experience is preferred. Stay late for even more and a full Day CCW class. So many options!!

Day II (Saturday) is a basic defensive shooting class all day. Safe, efficient and tactically sound gun handling will be the focus of the day. You have likely NEVER been taught to handle a gun in this manner!
We will begin by loading and unloading your gun without unsafe or unnecessary motions (most can't pass this test) in a manner that is TACTICALLY SOUND! Then move on to the basics of marksmanship, a precision shooting exercise and proceed to "Controlled Pairs" (two aimed shots with a focus on precision, then work on doing so quickly and accurately). After lunch, demonstrate the 5-Step draw and do all future drills from a holster including a CCW Qualification for score. By days end, a finale of (very deliberate and safe) drawing and firing to deliver controlled pairs to a 6 inch circle from 20 feet.
BTW: Attend a 4 hour "Classroom session" before OR after this "Day II" class and you are EDCo CCW certified! 8 hour classroom and you are Sacramento Co. Certified. All this for same or less than others charge for an "8 Hour" class with a long lunch and travel time to the range!
Day III (Sunday) is for Saturday 'graduates' and those who can convince me they can do the above safely. We will review the above and move to additional drills that will include:
Draw and fire at single and multiple targets
Reloading and Clearance drills
Call drills at multiple targets and various distances
Shoot and move drills
Move and shoot (then move some more) drills
Moving targets (you're gonna love this one!!)
Other "creative" drills from my fertile mind...
and last, but not least...
Day IV This is where it gets really good! All the above and more depending on your capabilities and desires, including:
Shooting from behind cover (especially from inside, under and around automobiles).
Building clearing.
low light and night shooting with and w/out flashlights.
and even more "creative" drills from my fertile mind...
Honestly, you really should be able to do all this prior to considering daily carry of a handgun in a safe and responsible manner. You should be able to do this if you own a handgun for home defense (BTW: A HANDGUN IS THE BEST FIREARM YOU CAN HAVE FOR HOME DEFENSE! Take a class and I will show you why!) Additionally, you should have these skills to enhance your survival if you ever meet that special person at the wrong time... Or they come crashing through your front door!
I will challenge your capabilities and long held beliefs of your ability to do what they make look so easy and effective on TV and movies... From my training, research and interviews with gunfight survivors, it all works out fine until faced with actual operation of a real gun and delivery of real projectiles when everything around you is going terribly bad... Better to find out your limitations when the target doesn't shoot back, rather than the horribly lonely feeling of going up against a determined opponent who simply does not care whether you live or die

our ccw trainer told us something similar. he was a leo trainer.. told us we should not think about carrying if, right now, we had -ANY- qualms about possibly shooting another human being in a defensive situation. ANY at all... because.. once you carry.. you are in that position...

On reason to go out and try a bunch of guns of different calibers to see which one you may like best.
For myself, I have a .357 and a .40, but honestly, the .45 doesn't have as much "snap" that actually makes follow up shots easier (at least for myself) with a .45 over a .40 and .357
Like guns, every person is different, and what may feel nice to shoot for one person may be different for someone else to shoot.
That said, the most favorite,fun, accurate gun I own to shoot in a 9 is the BHP. As I've gotten older though, I've gotten away from single action semi's for primary carry, and a single action carried in condition 1 wouldn't be my first suggestion to a person looking for their first sidearm.
