770 vs.755

Irwin, that 770 sure seems to have a great reputation. I am still waiting for the owner to be available to show it. Do you think it would be too heavy to cross my lawn now and again? The ag tires are a problem for me, so new tires would have to factored in. The standard tranny sure has mixed opinions. I don't mind using a clutch, and I do like the simplicity of it. Thanks for the pic.

.

I drove mine on my lawn more than once and at 2500lbs a wet lawn would get scuffed, but no problem when dry. When I bought it, it had turfs and like you I wanted different (read tougher) tires. I also added the bolt on step that is on the 790 and the 3005.

Tough gettin' old, eh?

You got that right!!! :)

That Woods hoe hangs off the back end a fair bit. Probably didn't need power steering alot with it attached..

There really is alot more to choosing the best tractor for your applicatioin than one may assume at first. Not being particularily wealthy, I want to make the right decision the first time. The advice given is a great benefit.

No' really it worked out fine, I was concerned while in process, but no need to fear, 1100 lbs was great as ballast!

I'm looking for one of those for my wife! She's a little short in the straddle. . :)

Hello dlyle. Welcome to TBN.

I ordered the step from my local Deere parts department. I think it was reasonably priced. I seem to remember it was under $100.00 . Give them a call, a phone call is cheap anyway. (My wife is all legs, but thankfully I do all tractor related work :D )

BTW, even though I sold my 770, I wish I was able to keep it. There are some jobs where another 3pt hitch would be a real plus..and I really liked that machine, just needed a more powerful backhoe. 60-80 year old oak trees have monster stumps :D The Kubota gets pushed to it's limits regularly.

Someone jump in if I'm wrong but because of the hydro trans versus a staight manual the 755 will not have the power of a 770. You would need about a 955 to be equal workability with a 770. I have a 770 (1995) and it cuts lawn, york rakes, moves snow, digs holes and has been great and it still fits in my std homeowners garage with the roll bar.

irwin,

Great idea about using the JD790 step on the JD770! I bought the step from John Deere ($60) yesterday and installed it today on my JD770. It really makes a noticable difference in comfort getting on and off the tractor. Thanks.

I like that step. Thought about putting one on the 770.

I put a lot of stress on the steering wheel when I decide to step up. I think the step would give a little relief to the steering column.
