I appreciate everyone's input on my other thread concerning which trailer to get. I decided to go with a Kaufman and got an 8,000lb 18' trailer. This was smaller than I originally planed, but more than adequate for my current and immediate future needs. (gotta separate needs/wants)

Anyways, I had Kaufman build one to my specs and it was ready in about 2 weeks. Drove down to their factory in NC and picked it up yesterday.

Specs on the trailer:

18' utility-type trailer
2-4000lb ez-lube brake axles
7,000lb drop leg jack
heavy diamond plate fenders
slide out ramps

Total cost was about $2600

Overall the quality seems very good. It's built very solid for a 8K trailer and weighs about 2400lbs. Paint quality is very good and the wiring is above average (no scotch locks that I could find). Tows very straight and easy. Workmanship is good and the sales staff were all very helpful.

The 7K drop leg jack was well worth the extra $$$:

Heavy-duty diamond plate fenders, steps. Also has 225/75-15 D-range tires:

Slid our ramps, not sure how these will be when slick/muddy. Might have to put some cleats on them:

Testing it out, should work well:

Overall I'm well pleased with the trailer. I'd recommend Kaufman to anyone looking for a quality trailer at a decent price.

When my burke depreciates out I am seriously considering a new 22' tilt kaufman. Nice trailers at a nice price.

Thanks for the comments.

The Kaufman just seemed like a really good value. The the only other brand I was considering was Hudson, which also makes top quality trailers, but I just couldn't get over the price. A Hudson similar to the one I got was about $1000 more; slightly different construction, same quality, just paying for the name I guess.

Thanks. Cheap, easily beat up fenders on a trailer are a peeve of mine, so I spent a little extra on the upgrade. I think it is 82" between fenders.

I'd also like to put a good word in for Kaufman and the folks that work there. I bought one of their 2 car haulers (32 ft deck) probably 8 years ago. We use it to take cars to the track, haul equipment and haul hay. Trailer has held up very well and still looks good. We even took a weekend ride to Michigan to pick up a new car from a broker. Hauled like a dream but don't plan on taking another one of those trips any time soon! Jim

I also forgot to add, I was pretty impressed with the whole sales/prep experience too. They pulled the trailer up right beside the office/showroom, checked the tire pressure, lug nut torque, u-bolt and spring bolt torque, checked the lights and the ride height hooked to my truck. Don't think I've ever had a trailer place check all that before sending it on it's way.

Do they have any distributors or can you only get them factory direct? I have been looking at these for a while but assumed you could only get them direct.
