My pole barn...a solo affair

I didn't set the bases until I had side stringers on, then I plumbed those as best I could by moving the poles. Then I shimmed the tops where I needed to. It ain't purdy but it's still standing 30 yrs later. What I'm saying is, cut yourself a break, Don't sweat the small s_it. Take care of the major items and the small ones will take care of themselves. The wife and I agree that our marriage isn't 50/50 -- it's 40/40 and the other 20 is just nits that don't need to be picked. Same thing with big projects.

Wow, great idea mikim! Thanks! You just answered a question I didn't even know I had about how to get the top of posts fairly plumb! When I build mine, I will use your system.

Luke was my muscle yesterday and today as we installed the door tin and hung it and installed the red squares. I forgot the tin did not have a flat edge and ended in a crown on each side. We had to remove the door, lay it flat and work on it on the barn floor and remove most of the red edge trims to install the tin after cutting the edge crown off. We had to cut the last panel also, as it only needed 8 inches. It was a lot more work than planned, but it turned out great when viewed from a distance.

We installed the red today after hanging the door. Luke did well and I like assisting him and just telling what to do and when. He really enjoyed putting screws in with my 18 volt Makita impact gun.

Brandi, that door has a dramatic affect on the way your barn looks. It changes it from plain to dressed up. You did one heck of a nice job.

Thanks so much.;) It really is a labor of love of the outdoors and making things. Now if I only could figure out a cool, easy way to cut out.....Go Army Aviation.........in RED to put on the roof.
