propane gas tank

without a better explanation about the reasons I am not comfortable aiding your lock-picking. If you have paid for the gas and they have locked it there are legal means to get it....if theres more to the story then maybe they are in the right. I have a feeling there's another side to this story. Please give a full explanation.

If its their tank they will be back to check and see if you unlocked it.They can do what they want if its ther tank, up to charging a fee for tampering/damaging or unlocking their tank.So be careful, and goodluck as you dont need a theft of services charge.

Just park a BUNCH on unmovable items around it so they cant retreive their tank.

Then call and ask how long we need to do this?

Like DwightD123, I am not going to get involved in this. My father in law operated a bulk distributorship for propane as well as gasoline, diesel, heating oil, lubricants. You wouldn't believe the stories. He sold his business in 1986 and when he died a few years ago LOTS of people still owed him LOTS of money; no one will ever see a dime of it.

I'm not saying this is the case, but it is something best left to the legal process.

Musta been a good fight. The gas delivery guy stopped by the other day when I was in the middle of adding a shutoff valve between the tanks and my generator. The line was cut & open when he walked up. He said he was required to shut off & lock any tank that wasn't fit for service at the time of delivery.

Then he mentioned that he didn't see anything, filled my tanks, and left.

I'm going to suggest the OP rents/leases the tank and hasn't paid the bill (for rental/leasing).
As much as it embarrasses me, I'll admit that happened to me last summer. Had the bill sent to me...just forgot about the dern thing until the wifey tried cooking on the stove (obviously, we don't cook much).
Although it really PO'd me, it was my fault. Paid the bill and they unlocked the tank.
I guess they can't take the tank, since I owned the contents.

Interesting info I'm hearing about renting/leasing tanks. Around here, they're usually the property of the propane company but not rented or leased. They get their money from gas sales only.

My underground tank is mine; I can fill it any way I want. The above ground tanks belong to a particular company; I can only put their gas in them. The tanks were delivered for free on request and I'm not charged any rental or leasing fees.

In this case, I don't think they chose not to remove the tank because the homeowner owns the gas - I'm guessing they do it because it's a royal PITA to disconnect and remove the tank as opposed to locking it and asking for payment.

If you were a gas company and you came and took away someone's tank because of a dispute, do you think you'd ever get a call from them asking you to bring the tank back? That's a lost customer. Maybe it's a customer you want to lose, but it's certainly a tactic of last resort.

As for tank rental, I paid for about 5 years then called up and asked about buying the tank. I mentioned that I could then buy from whoever I wanted. I havent paid rental since and that has been over 25 years

About a year or two ago I had a thread pulled in the Canadian section because I asked what peoples opinions were of the new HST tax. Said I couldn't post political stuff.
Now you are going to help someone perform an illegal activity??

I too am leary of assistance. I have an idea of what they could have done, but if it's a issue of not paying the rent, then maybe you need find another gas company. My tank rental from my last company was $52/yr, and they had one of the highest prices in the area. It was a national company so you'd have thought their price would be the lowest since they sold more propane then the smaller local guys. NOT!!!! Ended up dumping them and going with a local company. I still pay rent on the tank, but it's only $1/yr.
