Hello everyone,

I recently discovered, or what seems to be, my throwout bearing is going bad on my 2816 gear at only 180 hrs. It has a terrible scream when clutched and a rubbing noise when released. I posted a question about this on the general forums and everyone confirmed the throwout bearing issue. My question now is does the Mahindra Warrantly cover this. It was bought new in March 2009, so it is 2 and 1/2 years old. I was told that Mahindra extended the warrenties to 3 years. Is this correct? I called my dealer but havent heard back, I just wanted to get some opinions before I get taken to the cleaners. Thanks.

I read the other posting. The powertrain should be fully covered, but I doubt they like it. Did you notice, from the beginning, was the clutch adjusted so that there was free play at top of pedal travel? Does it have any now? Could be the clutch was missadjusted from the beginning and that bearing has been spinning 180 hrs. The load must have been very light tho because if contacting hard the clutch would have been slipping under load. Even 180hrs of light contact, tho not right, should not wear out a throw out bearing.

No, the clutch petal feels ok, plenty of free play at the top, and never any slipping issues, even under hard load. I've always tried to keep my foot off the clutch petal b/c its very easy to rest your foot there and ride the clutch, my dealer said Mahindra will want pictures of the problem before they will determine if the warranty covers it, I dont like the sound of that because this could be a costly repair especially if they break the tractor apart and find something they claim the warrantly does not cover. He said if its the clutch, the warranty will not cover it. Does anyone have any idea of how much it will cost, assuming it is the throwout bearing? I honestly cant believe that something this major could be wrong, at 180 hrs, and this tractor has been well taken care of, serviced, etc.. I'll be very disappointed if Mahindra doesnt cover the repair.

It's a bit of a catch 22, but Mahindra can't know what the problem is until they get the tractor opened up. They will be looking for the cause of the failure. They will be fair with you. After all, they want to sell each of your neighbors a tractor also.

I had a the very same problem on my 2615 and paid to have a clutch installed only to have the problem arrise again when i was loading it on the trailor at dealer. They took it back and worked on it again. Needless to say they could not fix the problem so Mahindra gave me a brand new 2816 at no charge. About two weeks of use the notorious noises started in the new tractor. I brought it back and went to see a lawyer. They gave me every penny that i had spent and sold me a 4035 and loader at cost. I bought it because it wasnt built by Mitsubishi. I suggest not letting them get a leg up on you and inspect parts that they remove so you dont go through the same trouble that i did.

Since it has correct play now Ill assume it has been good from the beginning and you have not adjusted it ... or at least when you did it it was long ago. Do not touch the adjuster. It will show new marks. The clutch is definitely part of the power train, but since it is an abuse item they are going to try to blame you if its worn out. Doesnt sound like it is anyway. Now, with the clutch ok and bad throwout they have less to stand on. Their only ploy would be to claim you rode the pedal. Your point would be that, since you did NOT, it was a bad t/o or that it was binding on the pilot collar and could not ever retract fully, therefore pressing on the clutch fingers even with pedal released. I look forward to the explanation of your symptoms. :confused2:

See above that I put in bold. The clutch as an item is also specifically excluded from coverage under about every manufacturer's warranty, and a tractor that is over two years old with a clutch problem technically has no coverage. That being said, Mahindra is reasonable and my experience is that they will take care of a problem if they feel it is a defect in material or workmanship and still under the time limit. The fact that they want to see what is happening is good, so the OP should not be discouraged.

The other thing I highlighted is "their only ploy..." and I think this sets the wrong tone. It isn't a game of deception which is what the word might suggest. Let's not beat them up unless they deserve it.

Your advice is otherwise good that he should leave the clutch adjustments alone.

Sorry, didnt mean to imply deception, but instead a tactic of employing the plausible that could be used if chosen. There are companies that take advantage of this when common sense indicates otherwise. I have not seen this with Mahindra, but have seen it many times otherwise. Within my limited experience Mahindra has come thru when they should. I respect them for it.
