regarding your old Century, I would check the diodes before I gave up on it. A shorted diode could cause the symptoms you describe, and that would be a fairly cheap fix.

My problem is i do alot of 1/2 welding. And i like the miller cause its made in the USA.[/QUOTE]

My sentiment exactly. Well, assembled in the USA from parts sourced worldwide.

Bad enough to go to Harbor Fright and by chi-com crap.:ashamed:

Hmmm, i read this too late... i just took it to the dump.

Im making the nice new spot for the new welder. I opened it up and checked that all was clean, but i never did any diagnostic. I am just too afraid that it would catch fire. It was making the most god awful racket you would have thought 6 cats were in there fighting with a cougar.

Maybe the chi-com rubber hose rotted away in the container ride over (on the container ship) and was replaced with Goodyear hose......:D

Did ya smell it? Did it smell like a Harbor Freight store if ya did??

Frankly, I don't believe it would be possible to assemble a welder or anything for that matter with multiple components, especially electronic/electrical ones with domestically sourced only components because the manufacturers aren't here anymore and you can thank free trade, NAFTA, the false economy of 'World Class Manufacturing' and a bunch of other political diversions perpetuated on the American public and of course the stupidity of the public itself.

In other words go buy it and enjoy eating rice and raw fish. I prefer steak myself from American raised Angus steers.

You could have taken it to the scrapper. Had lots of copper inside.

I believe I would have kept it, like I still have my old (and I presume trusty) Lincoln Tombstone. I haven't plugged it in for 20 years but I can't part with it.

After i opened it up, i saw that all the copper was coated in varnish. Alot of the larger wires were aluminum. I called the local scrap dealer, and he told me i would have to separate all the components before they would take it. The local scrap yard has an area for items like that, and have jail labor that demos it and scraps it out. County keeps the $$$. Im too lazy to do it myself.

As for keeping it....never

I never keep anything i dont need or dont ever think ill use. I already have a 30x40 shop full of stuff im using, and im filling a 30x60 as i type. I have to always ask myself..."self, will you EVER use this thing" If the answer is no...off to the dump or scrap yard.

I scrapped out a load of copper wire about 1 yr ago or so, made $2,400. I love to take stuff in for scrap. But i dont want to de-varnish wires.
