I have never owned a pair of steel toe boots, however, I may go that route after this week. Monday I was putting the flat toothbar back onto my loader bucket after welding some teeth back onto it and the bar had sort of drawn up (warped) from the heat and didn't want to fit quite right. I picked up my handy sledge, aka warp adjustment tool, and whacked it. It bounced off the leading edge of the bucket which was about two feet above the floor and landed on my right toe with a tooth slicing most of the toenail along with a piece of my toe! After realizing what an idiot really is I looked at my shoe. No blood showing so that was a good sign. It hurt pretty keen, but what the heck it is a heavy bar and should hurt. Since no blood was visible I put the bar back onto the bucket and made it fit without using the warp adjustment tool. I hobble up into the seat and drove off to move some brush. After a good day of brush moving I came in for the night and realized my foot hurt like He!! I took off my shoe and noticed my red sock which was formerly gray, and it was an open-toed sock! I snuck into the bathroom hoping to avoid spouse chastisement and succeed in that. Grabbed a bottle of peroxide and poured it liberally over the nailless toe that looked something like fresh hamburger. Following that I was looking for some sort of "kiddie" no tears antiseptic, but alas there was none. Time for alcohol, alas, I took the pour on your poor toe type first and poured. Big mistakae, yeeouch! I should have taken the best type of alcohol prior to the isopropyl type. Good ol' aged Kentucky Bourbon. It was a day of stupid mistakes. Tuesday I ordered a home, farm, indsutrial first aid kit. Now, I am shopping for some sort of boots that have a toe made of something stronger than steel before I lose any more digits! Do they make steel gloves?
