I have a pair of custom made work boots that i can wear if im only working for 4-5 hours. After that there just too darn heavy and unyielding to work in. if im working in muddy or wet field, i like to wear a ice rubber work shoe without laces so no mud/water gets in.

Yeah. The boots are one thing the socks are another. Wool. Cotton. Silk liners even. That can be as important as the boot. Might help to experiment with different kinds of socks.

I've always favored just plain old 'gold toe' cotton crew socks. They hold up pretty well. During work after hurricane Rita I tried Under Armor cushioned crew socks and they made a big difference.

I've heard a silk liner can make a difference if you have problems with moisture but I've never tried them.

I do recommend the Under Armor cushioned crews.

Well, I wore whatever was handy for the situation, lots of sneakers (Tennis shoes when I was a kid, now sneakers, I didn't know what a sneaker was until I read a story when I was a kid and the hero, a kid, could figure not out what sneakers were when the antagonist, a yank (northerner), told him to go put on a pair of sneakers and he didn't know what they were!

I have never owned a pair of steel toe boots, however, I may go that route after this week. Monday I was putting the flat toothbar back onto my loader bucket after welding some teeth back onto it and the bar had sort of drawn up (warped) from the heat and didn't want to fit quite right. I picked up my handy sledge, aka warp adjustment tool, and whacked it. It bounced off the leading edge of the bucket which was about two feet above the floor and landed on my right toe with a tooth slicing most of the toenail along with a piece of my toe! After realizing what an idiot really is I looked at my shoe. No blood showing so that was a good sign. It hurt pretty keen, but what the heck it is a heavy bar and should hurt. Since no blood was visible I put the bar back onto the bucket and made it fit without using the warp adjustment tool. I hobble up into the seat and drove off to move some brush. After a good day of brush moving I came in for the night and realized my foot hurt like He!! I took off my shoe and noticed my red sock which was formerly gray, and it was an open-toed sock! I snuck into the bathroom hoping to avoid spouse chastisement and succeed in that. Grabbed a bottle of peroxide and poured it liberally over the nailless toe that looked something like fresh hamburger. Following that I was looking for some sort of "kiddie" no tears antiseptic, but alas there was none. Time for alcohol, alas, I took the pour on your poor toe type first and poured. Big mistakae, yeeouch! I should have taken the best type of alcohol prior to the isopropyl type. Good ol' aged Kentucky Bourbon. It was a day of stupid mistakes. Tuesday I ordered a home, farm, indsutrial first aid kit. Now, I am shopping for some sort of boots that have a toe made of something stronger than steel before I lose any more digits! Do they make steel gloves?

I wear Bates DuraShocksョ Sage Green Steel Toe Boots for work. They are mil spec, very light, flexible, and grip really well in slick conditions. I also have another pair of them in black leather that I wear when I am not working.

ROTF! :laughing::laughing::laughing::thumbsup:

Funny you should post this as I wore a necktie last night while trick or treating with our grandchildren. The only occasions I wear a tie nowadays are funerals and weddings! Before retirement I wore a tie everyday and for the holidays a theme tie. For Halloween I wore a "ghost" tie. The grandkids thought it was cool. So there I was hobbling along wearing a sandal on my right foot with a big wool sock on it and a standard black shoe on the left one while grandma had her face painted like a pumpkin and her hair sprayed green. I am glad the grandkids are too young to think we are weird.

I feel your pain. I too used to wear 'tennis shoes' or sneakers inthe shop. did something similar and droped a piece of 1/2" plate steel squarely on my toe, sliced it downthe sid and lost the nail within a few days. was a bit sore for a few weeks... boots from then on.

only time i wear something other than boots is:

beach - barefoot or with those mesh shoes with rubber bottom.. easy to wash.

walking for exercise - sneakers

at home, after hours - soft slippers.. :)

any other time - boots of some sort.
