Fire prevention will cite you if a tree is too close to a chimney... you still need to go to the permit counter and pay $65 for a tree removal permit and wait 4 weeks til the public comment period has closed...
I had to do this with an old walnut tree in the backyard...
Oh... Fired Department came to check on the removal and saw it was still there... good thing I had my paid permit application on hand or I would have been fined.
