...and probably a real nice guy who wouldn't use more than bird shot.

Thanks for the comments, I thought I had posted a thread on the build of the tank but can not find it!
I check it again tonight and if I did not then I'll start a new thread and put in more pictures!
I don't carry all the time but the LGD's do! LOL

I've got 2 55 gallon drums that I alternate. I try to buy my fuel when it is a little cheaper, usually in the fall or winter, and probably only go through about 70 - 100 gallos per year. I use a cheap Harbor Freight rotary hand pump, a filter, and hose to fill the tractor. Only takes about 100 revolutions to fill from 1/4 tank.

I use about 40gal of diesel per year and my local distributor gave me a used 55gallon steel oil drum that i use. It has a 2" threaded opening in the top that i bought a hand pump to fit it and it works pretty well.
1*Transporting the drum is the only downside, its hard to strap down and is top heavy but it is better than going to the gas station all the time.
1*I don't find taking my 55 gallon drum to get filled to be any problem and i don't need my tractor or forks to load or unload it.

I don't use much fuel, maybe 25 or so gallons per year.
2* I just tap off the heating oil supply down in the basement into a 5-gallon can (installed a valve and tee for this purpose).:)
2*I'd plumb in an elct pump to this and forget the 5 gallon can.
Every one who heats their home this way should do this if they have a diesel tractor.

I'm considering a 15 gallon steel gravity feed tank now.
3*Any downside to this?
4*What other options are there?
3* How do you solve a 5 gallon can that's all ready to heavy by going to a 15 gallon container that is 3 times heaver ? :confused2:

4*This is the slickest I've ever seen .

5*One answer is to use a plastic 30gal or 55gal) barrel. Some with pumps, and some up on stilts like mine.
6*Some put this in & out of truck with FEL and fill at local station .

5*Here is the first one I built 30gal.

This is my second build and what I use now 55gal.
6*No need for that with either of these rigs because both are self filling .
Been looking for a way to store fuel at my house also. But since my Uncle is a farmer,
7*I have been buying 10 gallons at a time off him till I find something for myself.
7*Get a 15 30 or 55 gallon plastic drum and an electric pump an you're all set.

Im trying to find a 50-100 gal diesel tank with electric pump for a reasonable $$$$, but no luck yet.
8*Id just load/unload it on a pallet with forks... and haul to station to fill.
8*What not save your self all that hassle and simply use the pump instead??????

cool some interesting ideas.
9*I did figure I would use the loader to put it on and off the trailer to go and fill up.
10*I guess a 30 gal drum and pump may not be a bad idea.
11*The tank I'm looking at is 120$ at TSC.
15 gallons would hold me for a few months, maybe 6 depending on how much seat time I can steal.
and yes pouring from 5gallon jerrycans is a pain.
9*Again if you have a pump there is no need for that.
10*Only way to fly .

11* This 30 gallon drum cost me 3 bucks.

This 55 gallon one was under 15 dollars.
Forget 120 bucks and use it towards building yourself a real fueling rig.

I just use the older Rubbermaid 2-1/2 & 5 gal cans for gasoline, 5 gallon Chilton kerosene cans (blue) for diesel. the reason for the blue cans is the shape, they're tapered out at the bottom so they don't tip easily. I found a small 12V transfer pump to pump diesel out of the cans so I don't have to lift them.

Don't use enough diesel to need anything bigger! ~~ grnspot
