GOOD NEWS: I got an email the other day saying they are writing off the remainder of the debt. Did the BBB complaint force their hand or was it just coincidence? Who cares as long as this nightmare is over.

You better check your credit score now. They may have dinged you![/quote]

They cant ding you unless you used a JD credit card. and i really doubt they even care. Its all a game. im sure they dont have his credit data or SS# to do so.

Personally, since i paid off all my credit cards, my house and car loans, my credit score has tanked. You have to be in debt over your head to have a good credit score. If you owe no one, your credit score just keeps dropping. Personally i dont care as ill never take out another loan.

I would check your credit just to be safe. Secondly if they did I would send them a nice letter saying that you were going to take them to small claims court to get back the money you paid for work they did without your permission. If they didn't report it on your credit then i probably would drop it and part ways with the dealer.

Like you I try to do as much work as I can. In the future you should be able to search the internet to find out how to do the tests that require "JD" or other brand equipment. My newest battery charger can do a complete check of your charging system.

Now that the dust is settling, call and ask for the General Manager and ask him where your VR is...in most places it is ILLEGAL to charge for parts you don't replace. Local news channels run stings on repair companies from time to time on this.

Your local news (consumer advocate section) can be a good resource. If you can PROVE you are being charged for work you didn't request and charged for parts you never received...Levels the playing field and many places will all of a sudden want to make a "fair" deal to avoid bad press.

If they are working with bad practices ("fraud" is a bit strong without more certainly), they will know if their business will hold up to scrutiny. Remember, you do NOT want to get something for free or take advantage of them, but you certainly don't want to be taken for a ride, either.
