LS S3010
I'm FINALLY getting to 50 hours on my S3010 so I began looking for the various filters. Not sure how I should go, I decided to buy the filters from both my dealer and from FleetFilter and see what the differences were. I forgot the air filter from the dealer so here are the filters I ended up with:

As to be expected there was a dramatic difference in price:

Hydraulic $49.99(D), $28.42(FF)
Oil $12.99(D), $5.17(FF)
Fuel $9.99(D), $8.15(FF)
Air$19.05(FF)

I also paid tax ($5.75 because FF is in Texas) & shipping ($8.88) from FleetFilter. The totals were $72.97(D w/o air filter) and $75.42 (FF)

I have to admit the LS filters from the dealer did appear to be of a higher quality of workmanship. I couldn't see any difference in the quality of the materials. The rubber gaskets were nicer (not sure how else to say it...) on the LS filters.

Even the LS fuel filter seemed to be better made and had more folds. The one from FF appeared to be slightly taller, but I assume that's not going to be a problem:

I'm not a pro when it comes to this stuff so all this is just my observations. In my opinion the differences in quality aren't enough to justify the difference in price for my money, but I'm willing to listen to what others think.

I will add the part numbers to the "Sticky needed?" thread later.

For my R4010, my dealer did quite a bit better than NAPA on the Hyd. filter. I think it was around $35.

WIX makes all of the NAPA filters and if you go to the WIX website you should be able to locate the specifications for the filters you are using (i.e., Filter media type and micron size, canister size and so on). This info. might help you in your decision. Here is a link to there website. WIX filters, WIX oil filters, WIX air filters, WIX fuel filters, WIX Heavy Duty Oil Filters

Appreciate the link -- certainly good information to have on hand. Not too sure how I would go about getting the equivalent information on the LS filters so I could compare filter performance characteristics.

Yeah, the best prices I've found thus far:

www.DiscountFleetSupply.com

Wix 51715 $25.58 Hydraulic
Wix 51365 Case of 12 $55.80 Oil
Wix 46438 $17.15 Air
Wix 33262 $7.33 Fuel

$11.52 shipping

(note that there are 12 oil filters: $4.65 ea.)

no tax if not in Georgia

Too bad I didn't find this place BEFORE I bought mine.

Totally blew it on the air filter. I was using the filter part numbers for the Montana equivalent of the S3010. It worked for the all the other ones so I assumed the part number for the air filter was good too -- it wasn't. I had cleaned the original with compressed air and knew what it looked like, but I didn't remember how big it was. Turns out it was MUCH smaller that the one I bought to replace it. I found the correct part number for the Wix air filter (46449) by cross-referencing the Donaldson part number (P822686). Here is what they look like side-by-side:

Sorry, I should have checked before publishing that bogus information.

Guys, you should know that the air filters are made to be blown out with compressed air for cleaning. No need to replace them unless the paper is torn or gasket is torn. They will last for many years if properly cleaned. Correct cleaning technique is to start by gently bumping the filter on the gasket end on your tractor tire to jar loose all the loose dirt. Then blow from the outside for top to bottom to remove the majority of dust. I then blow it from the inside a bit to see if any dust comes out. The owners manual doesnt say to blow from the inside but I like to past a little air thru from the inside anyway. DONT get your blow gun too close as you can damage the paper if you have 100 PSI on your tank and get really close. I like to stay about 6 inches away with the nozzle tip;

I do pretty much the same thing. Both of my tractors have a low exhaust outlet at the left front. I have learned that what won't blow out of the filter like dirt and dust is diesel soot, which eventually clogs the paper. I wish I had a way to check how much air is getting through when the filter is new, compared to when it's too clogged for proper running. The first time I figured this out on my old Cub Cadet was when the rubber tube from the element to the manifold was going flat under throttle. That was probably way too late to be changing that filter.
