I dont think I would go quite that far.

All though it may be just a tad better than the 136

I dont have one, but the Arbourist site guys seem to think theyre ok. And theyre not ones to hold back if its a piece of crap.

The 136 now, thats a saw that gets mixed reviews.

I wouldnt even compare a 340 to a wildthing. The 340 is a decent low end saw, the Wildthing is a POS.

Dont know what his intentions were, maybe he'll come back and clarify but he did say this "Every one is just like the others with a little special plastic, and a different name."

The opinion that theyre all the same, so your a sucker if you pay more" is a sentiment thats shared by many, if it wasnt Harbor Freight wouldnt exist:laughing: . Its not the case as most know. You usually get what you pay for.

Now, i bought a reconditioned wild thing a few years back. It was an excellent cheap saw. It was cheap, and it ran good for a little while, but it was cheap.

What i was saying is that there is no difference in the big box store stuff. If you want the good stuff, you buy the stuff they don't sell at lowes. I have heard people say "it's made in the same factory from the same pieces, but they do better specs for brand (X)". I am sorry, thats just silly. That's like saying they put the smart people on the cub line, and the people with average intelligence go on the mtd line right next to it. Or that the cub guys get snapon wrenches, and the mtd guys get the pitsburg forge stuff from harbor freight. If one has a steel shroud, and one has plastic, then we have something to go on.

Thats the problem with them They are disposable saws because it costs more in parts and frustration than the saw cost in the first place. Cheap is relative .

I agree, the good stuff isnt at any of the big boxes. The retailers put a lot of pressure on the manufacturers to meet that specific price point. That means cuts to quality.

Usually, its things like "steel shrouds", shaft diameters and ball bearings etc that get cut. Stuff thats not visable from the outside. The average consumer sees "Brand X" on the side and assumes its a quality unit, not knowing what cuts have been made under the shiny paint.

I read a great article about the President of Snapper refusing to continue to sell to Walmart. He didnt want to undercut his independent retailers nor did he want to sacrifice quality to meet Walmarts price targets. It spoke volumes about the kind of leverage big boxes have on their vendors to do things they normally wouldnt do, like cheapen their brand for the sake of sales

Poulan does have relations to Husqvarna, so I do believe that some products would be made by them.

As other members have said, I'd stick to ones that say "Made In Sweden".

Everyone has their own opinions. In mine, what you say about the wildthing^^^, is how I also feel about plastic-cased homeowner saws like the "box-store" huskies, low end stihls, etc.

Heck, for that matter, IMO it really isnt worth fixing ANY saw that cost less than $300new. UNLESS it is something simple like a fuel line or carb issue. But To tear down and rebuild a saw (jug, re-ring, new piston, etc) cost of parts and my time doing it isnt worth it for sub-$300 saws on average.

We have a lower-priced dolmar 350. It is a sweet running little saw. But for $250, if/when it would need an overhaul, it is more cost-effective to just buy a new one:thumbsup:

Easier than that ,If you like cranking and putting the chain back on constantly, then by all means purchase a new Wildthang> there seems to be a design problem with the chain and bar as to keeping the chain in the proper place. Now my neighbors is in the pile..I run Homelite and Stihl.

Well, I found a decent price for a new Husqvarna 450 on Amazon. I took the price to my John Deere dealer and he beat it buy one dollar and threw in a soft carrying case, wrench, hat, and a bottle of oil. The tag on the 450 says made in Sweden.

BTW, he told me he was clearing out his Husky line because John Deere bought Stihl. He would soon be a Stihl dealer.

I dont think JD bought stihl. But JD has partnered with stihl to make their handhelds. Its been that way for at least a year up here. There is a whole "Sthil" section in the store

That is correct. JD did NOT buy stihl. Just a partnership.
