One last contribution to the "drill press modification" hijack...
I've attached a picture of the speed reduction mechanism on this bigger drill press that I bought. Some of you may be able to poach ideas from it to adjust your own. I don't know if the motor pulley can be turned upside down like this on the smaller drill presses.
The first picture includes a full shot of the center idler pulley and the off-set pin that allows it to move in relation to the other pulleys. The second picture is the assembled drive mechanism.
What you have there is the exact concept my friend at the coffee shop in town was describing to me when I talked up the modification I'm planning for my DP.:thumbsup: Certainly simplifies it. My remaining concern is the puny "sewing machine " belt on mine. I'll have to see about changing that out somehow.
