I have an 8 speed Craftsman with a tiny belt. I will have to toss all the pulleys and start from scratch. I think it will be worth it. It needs a slower speed.
Yeah, what is it with the sewing machine belts they use on cheap drill presses?I have two cheapos from either Princess Auto or Canadian Tire and the one I'm going to modify will only run one slow speed once I'm done modifying it. The first belt can be a slim one but the final drive better be more substantial to keep it from slipping.
Bought a used 1500W MC4 drill last month on an online auction for 350 euro. It weighs about 150kg, and has the beef to keep the drill from vibrating.
I keep the taiwanese made 250W MC1 drill for use with the quick mount drill head, and leave the new toy on its slowest speed, for Morse cone drills.
As my neighbour would say: If you keep your eyes open for the right deals, you dont have to draw your wallet wide open...Colour me"green" (with envy)!:licking::laughing::thumbsup:
...I thought I'd give you the run down on the modification that slowed my inexpensive Sears drill press from 620 RPM to about 205 RPM...
