This is ridiculous - No alternators in the US!!!

We have several of those freightliner/Mercedes vans at work and you'd think with the multitude of them out there all the parts you'd need would be in the states. Nope. No alternators, fuel pumps or some wiring looms. All had to be ordered from europe. It's not just tractors that have those probs.

Thats because in this economy no one wants ti tie up thier money in parts that will sit on a shelf. You need it in most cases a couple of days or a week and its here. They still repaired the tractor (or truck) and they didn't tie up thier money with parts on the shelf. Its crappy but with an uncertain economy everyone is watching thier bnk accounts. I am seeing it in all industries. Parts for my buisness that were always available are now 3 days out, all the time. Even seeing distributors doing it. I have one place that took our discounts away for paying in 10 days or less. You only get the discount if you COD it. So its affecting everyone

I can't believe this...

. We will have to wait for it to come in on the boat from Japan which will be at least a week. ........ they don't have a simple part like an alternator ANYWHERE in the USA...
Welcome to the level of service the rest of the World gets.
Not nice , is it ? Only a week ; 8 weeks is not uncommon in these parts.
You've got it soft Mate .

No alternator for one of the most popular makes and models of tractor in the country?? There is no explanation or excuse for that.

Doesn't even seem possible :confused2:

Tell them to take one off a machine on the sales lot

I've even had to order parts not in stock for my Ford Pickup- supposedly the number one selling vehicle in the WORLD for 25+ years:laughing:

Did they have to come from overseas?

We had the BX picked up by the dealer on 11/09/2011 to fix the electrical problems outlined in this thread:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/224040-dead-battery-bx25.html

They determined that it was the alternator and they would repair it under warranty. The parts had to come in, but we were supposed to have the tractor back today or tomorrow.
So we get a call this morning (11/22/2011) saying that there are NO alternators anywhere in the USA. We will have to wait for it to come in on the boat from Japan which will be at least a week.

I can't believe that for one of Kubota's best-selling models, they don't have a simple part like an alternator ANYWHERE in the USA...

NOTE, this does not reflect on our local dealer. They have been very good through all this and were apologetic. We have had a few parts replaced before and they all were readily available.

It reflects entirely on the crisis that involved Japan this summer....

Could be, but I read some posts on here which seemed to say that Kubota was not greatly affected...

Maybe not, but I don't think Kubota makes alternators. It is probably made by a company like Mitsubishi, Nippon Denso, etc, that may not have fared so well ...

Physically, maybe not. But supply chain and shipping, I bet, greatly.

I suspect that's one reason I'm not seeing an abundance of new Kubota tractors on dealers lots that I go by.

The Tsunami wiped out their infrastructure on the industrialized coastline and Kubota is manufactured in Japan (I realize they have a Georgia assembly plant but that plant is about sub assemblies and attachments, not power units).

If you can't get the part (alternator), run it total loss (no charging) and keep a battery charger handy.
