Splitter Build Begins

What is the GPM of your PTO pump, and the model #? Is it a 540 or 1000 PTO rpm speed.
It's 540 rpm but I am not sure of the model it's on the tractor can not see good. I put a log on the four way my grand daughter pulls the lever I turn to get another and she is waiting on me. I believe that is super fast. If I have another person then we can keep up. Thank J.J later

I had another design thought... Work Lights. If someone already mentioned that I missed it. It get dark early in the winter when you're most likely to use a wood splitter. having some work lights handy would increase your options for when you can split wood.

Does your engine have a charge circuit for a battery?

Funny you should mention that because I was tossing that around last night. It does have a system to charge and the light system is definitely a go for the build. Also I just spoke with the local commercial firewood Company and they offered me $50 per ton for busted unseasoned wood 15 inches long only restriction is no box elder, no sycamore, and no more than 15% popular. What do yall think?

That's a good deal. I can do 5 ton a day and not hurt my self. The rest of the wood can trash out to people who burn any thing. They make the mistake on popular that and ash is my biggest seller. My customers like pretty wood and clean.

Some of the features I like from my own splitter are:

* work tables to catch the wood so you don't have to lift it multiple times.
* 3-point mounted so it raises and lowers, allows me to lower and roll on a big one using an old car ramp as a helper, then raise up to the perfect height so I am not bending. that height may change during the course of the day, and certainly changes depending on who is splitting. Even if it has its own engine, this idea may be considered.
*consider making the splitter rotate to vertical too

Here's a thread talking over much of these ideas, and pics of mine are in there:

Honestly if I was starting over I'd reconsider hydraulics altogether. These new mechanical ones are more economical to run and are faster too...

DR is one supplier, there are others but I forgot them.

I look at the mechanical splitters also and to be honest they kinda scare me not much time for you to get a finger outta the way.

nice idea.. Your controls way over there will be making you twist lots.. You will be facing the ram to watch the wood.. you will want your controls near the ram..
