This is ridiculous - No alternators in the US!!!

The OP didn't say what model this was for (though it could be in his sig tag). I've got a BX2230 and was thinking about the alternator upgrade, but the $345 price tag made me swallow a bit. Is this the same alternator I'd want to upgrade the dynamo? I thought I'd read another thread that the alternator upgrade wasn't available any more.

I wouldn't be mean about it, but maybe you could jokingly say to the dealer that you see 20+ alternators that are available right now. When he asks where, like everyone else is saying, tell him out in the lot on other tractors. To me it would be worth a shot, at least maybe they'd think about it and offer a loaner tractor to you. You know, maybe an M class or something...

I agree that there are ways around this issue - particularly if you know where to purchase said alternator. Placing that fact squarely in the lap of the dealer should demonstrate whether or not they really want your business. Warranty work or not, being down for that amount of time because your alternator is on the slow boat from China (or Japan) is intolerable when the part is available (as it sounds like it is) and can be in their shop w/in 24hrs using UPS/FedEx.

Those alternators retail for $345.55

After market and re-builds are all over the web for $80.
No doubt the Kubota dealer would charge what you stated.

Kinda have to remember that the 902E is a very common engine for a lot of marine, pump, industrial applications.

It'd been nice to know this before tying up your machine at the dealership, I suppose. I know I wouldn't care if it sat here or sat there, if all it was doing was sitting anyhow.

But..... if I knew a big snow was coming? I'd just pay the lousy $80 and have one on it out of my own pocket. I might take the bad one in for the warranty exchange, if and when one ever comes in.

That's me. Got the patience of Job if I'm not using it, but zero patience if I knew I needed my tractor running today!!

Instead of leaving the machine at the dealer out of commission, if you needed it for snow or other tasks, like was mentioned above, you could buy the alt out of pocket. Or just charge the battery and run it, don't use the lights, it should run like that?? unless the problem is more complex than just failure of the alt to charge the battery ???

JB

We can't really have them bring it back to use until they get it fixed since we are paying for transportation.

About a week after they got the tractor they said it would be about another week since they had to get the alternator. OK, two weeks. That's was not that bad, but now it's going to be another week...like I said before, this does not totally fall on the dealer, but on Kubota. The dealer is doing their best. Maybe the delay is from the quake. Who knows...

True, but then we would have to drive all the way out to the dealer. ;)

I don't think a M would even fit down the driveway.

I am VERY concerned...I just bought a new BX25 and they are not keeping at least 12 of every part in stock in the USA? They should have stripped one off a new unit for you, but no, YOU are inconveinced instead of them. Did I say I am VERY CONCERNED?

The sky is falling.

I thought to myself that this was impossible, but I looked and we've never sold one. If people don't need them there is not much stock around.

Uhhhhhh

Cost of labor drove most manufacturing out of the USA. The UAW did a nice hatchet job on the big three and now there is no more big three.
Wouldn't be corporate greed...or even ourselves for picking imported products off the shelf, just because they are cheaper (not better) instead of paying a little more for American made products.
Blaming the unions and people with better paying jobs is NOT the answer and is NOT the cause of our sick economy.
