Good luck today, that's probably the world's most popular side delivery rake at a very low price. If I had an opportunity to get one in that shape at that price I wouldn't think twice.

I got it all. Only thing I saw wrong was the cable to engage it into gear was broke off. Just hav to replace that.

N now the good part I got a nh 269 baler hayliner with kicker for 400 bucks. She said it worked 2 yrs ago when it was put away in barn. Just mixin front pto shaft

Don't know much about rakes, but looks like 269 to me.

You are correct with the 1st part of the statement.

The 269 is on the side of the baler pick up. Unless you know what you are looking at it isn't clear. The rake is parked ahead of a baler and the photo is catching both I believe. In the lower part of the photo is the gauge wheel on the pick-up.

Does ne one know where I can find a replacement front Pto shaft for this nh 269 baler? Its just just has the long pto shaft comin from clutch n then just shaft is exposed

Post a picture of where the shaft goes (ie: from the hitch to where the shaft connects). I may have one available on one of the balers that came with the new place.

Heres wat I could get for pics until I get it off trailer. All thats exposed is the shaft. Im guessin I need whole front pto ujoints n sleeve extension? By looks of pic in manual it just shows the knuckle n yoke no shaft extension like my nh 68 baler thats a 2 piece pto shaft

Please let me straighten you out on the rake. That looks like a 56 to me. Easiest way to tell the difference is where the A-frame for the rake attaches in the very first photo you posted. If it has a part there that looks like a trailer hitch ball,and the two clam shell parts that attach to it, it is a 56. If it has the other flat one, it is a 256. Roll bar bearings, and many other parts ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. I have rebuilt both many times for resale! Both are fine rakes, but top dollar on a 56 is around 1000. Before you put money like that into a roll bar, go looking for a rotary rake. The performance difference is night and day.

As to the baler, just because the person said it worked two years ago, does not mean anything today. You need to go over the chamber, plunger and knotters with a fine tooth comb to make sure they are right. You are just starting on a big learning curve. If you are mechanically inclined and can learn if from the manuals and your own common sense you will do fine. Other wise, you many have two very nice boat anchors.

If making hay way easy, every on would make their own.

A 56 and 256 both take 48138 bearings and 48134 tine bars, use the same gearboxes, drivetrains, axles and tines.

A $1000 rotary rake (around here) will probably need that much again to make it reliable. Rotarys do, however, have advantages.

I have had the Befco no for 3 years as a back up to my MillerPro. These rakes are out there if you want to look for them. After you use a rotary, you will never go back to a rollbar.

The only 56 I rebuilt, did not take the same bearing for the tine bars as a 256. I had 256 bearings here and they would not work. These were packaged by NH, and were not labeled as being interchangeable.

are you should you aren't talking about a 55 or super 55 rake because the only difference between a 56 and 256 is the jack like i stated before the 56 fold's down the the 256 has a crank. I to hae built many of them and sold. I also run 2 256's and have a 56 that i use for parts. I buy the 56's all the time to salvage out and everything has interchanged.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of this. My experience and the parts catalog don't agree with you regarding the tine bars & bearings. I can't tell what you have done or what you have worked on.

Gentlemen, I know the difference between a 55 and a 56. I was not confused.

The last 56 I redid was about 5 years ago. I had 256 tine bar bearings on the shelf, and they did not fit. When I went to Messiks to get the right ones, one package (bearing, shield and new clip) was labeled for 56, and the other package was labeled 256 and 258. Now maybe they had some really old stock, and the bearing has been changed to fit all now. But at the time I did that rake, that was what happened to me.

Moved on to rotary rake 5 years ago, and will never go back to this old technology.
