Very nice, JoramH! Welcome to TBN.

Thanks for the pictures.

If I jumped on a direct, "over-the-pole" flight from Anchorage -- where would I have to land to get a close up look at your 5095M?

Those front tires are really something!

AKfish
You'll have to go to the Netherlands, close to the city of Sneek to be exact.

Deere needs to add a wider tire for the fronts. When I look at my rear and front tire. I think "what the heck? why is my front tire so narrow..." :( Maybe 14.9R24 but 13.6R24 is a must. 12.4R24 is just too narrow.
No joke. I'm looking at the MY 2012 5085M and the standard is 11.2R24/16.9R30. For an extra $1258, you can step up to 12.4R24/18.4R30, which is what comes standard on the MY2012 5100M/5115M. You pay $1848 extra for the rears (bias), but get a $590 credit for the fronts (radial). Go figure.

They do offer a 13.6R24 radial, but you have to pair that with the 15.5R38 rear radial, which skinnier than the 18.4R30 I would think, which seems strange.

I want a regular 5M with normal ground clearance, but wider tires than what I see in the online configurator. You know, something like this, but at a 5M size/weight/price. :D I wonder if those are the 14.9R24 or the 16.9R24 fronts? There are just so many more sizes to choose from on the 6x30 series.

pclausen Those are the 16.9R24 fronts, because I have the same ones on my 6430p. :D

I bought a JD 5095M this year, it is a big bigger, but it can fit large tires. Altough the dealer had to bring the fenders 5 cm up.

Nice equipment. Over sized tires sure make that thing look huge!

Hi Guys,

Thank you for all of the help with my tractor selection. I am in the final stages of a negotiation for a 5085M 2011 year, new tractor, already built. This one has deluxe cab (with air susp. seat added), 16 x 16 PowrReverser 540/540E, Electrohydraulic pto, triple deluxe valves, triple mid with joystick control, skid plates, 18.4R30 R1 Radial, 12.4R24 R1 Radial, 3-Point Hitch with Telescoping Draft Links, H260 loader setup for SS quick connect and with hoses for aux. hyd. installed, hood guard, and RimGuard in rear tires. JD Quick Hitch.

By the time everything is accounted for the tractor is pushing 70k msrp. AKfish said that he had gotten multiple quotes and didn't go for the cheapest deal, but instead bought his from a dealer he felt good about and paid about 16% off list. That made sense to me. I feel pretty good about my dealer, but he says that they just do not go below about 11% off list. I might be able to talk myself into 15% off of list, but the 11% just doesn't seem very generous. One other thing, I have an exceptionally clean JD2355 with about 2400 hours, 2 wheel drive, bran new wheels and tires, looks almost like it did when it came off the showroom floor. This is a built in Germany JD. The dealer looked at it and offered me $9500. I am confident that he could sell this tractor for 12K in no time at all, and to the right buyer, for as much as 15k. The rest of the deal would be cash. What do you guys think, am I being unreasonable thinking I should get a 15% discount? Is the dealer not going to be able to stay in business at that rate?

Anyway, thank you again everyone, but especially AKFish and Bigfoot62.

With the amount of money your paying for the 5085M I wouldn't fret the extra couple thousand, its about a 5% difference for your "high end" guesstimate. If we were talking a $20k tractor it would be a lot bigger deal but for the hassle of selling it just let the dealer do its work. The 5085M sure sounds like a beauty and it's kinda like the newer sibling of my 5410, but man am I jealous of those 5085M's! Beautiful machines.

And as for the 2355 I was just wondering if you ever used it? The thing is spotless! Looks like factory. Wow am I ever amazed of how good that looks. Sell it to the right guy, you'd have better luck selling it to a museum!

The tell the dealer to cut 2.5k off to make your tractor at 12k and you'd have a deal and I'm sure he'd take it.

Good luck:thumbsup:

DAM! Armrests on the seat! I want those too! Any ways nice ride. A mirror too. I want one of those.

Its actually these tire sizes Rear 600/65R38 Front 540/65/R24 . I attatched what 16.9 fronts look like on a 6430 Premium. A difference of 420 fronts and 540 fronts are a lot.

I should know what tire size they are since I just got my 6430p last year.... I will check the quote I have and see what size they are....

Island Farmer;

The lowest bid I received was from Washington Tractor in Olympia. I believe the salesman's name was Jason.

One of the highest bids I got was from Washington Tractor in Port Townsend. Go figure...

I gather that those stores are now part of a larger group that has just (within the past 2 years or so) consolidated with the latest string of JD dealership buyouts across the nation.

Nonetheless, I would have bought a tractor from the Olympia folk's but they fell down completely on the shipping end of the transaction - told me I'd have to negotiate directly with the shipper, etc. on cost and logistics - deal breaker; right there!

As you, no doubt can appreciate - one of the strongest components of the nation's economy; even with the current downturn - is the Agricultural sector. Farmer's and rancher's are making money! Input costs are problematic but the profit margin's are good and the current, 100% 1-year depreciation write off has got folk's lined up at the dealership's front counter!

That said, dealer's can afford to play "hard to get" right now! IMHO, dealer's are making money on 15% tractor's...

Couple of things that come to mind - your 2355 is a beauty! Very nice tractor and obviously well maintained. Your dealer is "low balling" you on the trade-in - IMO. If you sell it yourself, I think you could readily get $12.5K Craig's List is generally a problem for buyers - dealing with crooked sellers. Selling a piece of equipment is less of a problem 'cause if they don't have the cash...

I can't speak to your relationship with your dealer and how "firm" they are on the sale price - but, if you're close enough to other dealership's and can haul the tractor yourself, etc. You could always feel those dealer's out on a quote. If nothing else, you would have a better idea of how much your local dealer "values" your continued business with them. If they have a committment towards keeping you as a customer - you'll know - based upon how different the quotes are.

Best of luck.

AKfish

Island Farmer,

Is it possible you keep your 2355? I know 12k is 12k but that tractor is a beaut! If you could keep it and sell it if/when you really need too I would see that as best. I would love to have something like that around to toy around with in my spare time and to keep it and the 5085M would be a really sweet combo!
