+1 to ballasting the rears. This allows the rear to do most of the work. If they lose traction the front drivetrain is now putting most of the power to the ground. This adds extra stress and can sometimes result in a major failure.

When four wheel drive was being introduced to heavy farm equipment, it was common to refer to it as front wheel assist (sometimes still is). This is because the power split is designed something like 70% rear, 30% front.

If you going to have a FEL on, their is not much reason to ballast the front, unless you have some unique operating conditions, IMO.

Agreed. And don't forget these are COMPACT utility tractors. Shorter wheel bases, higher centers of gravity, and we always want more power :D

This means it is common for them to get "tippy" - especially when the FEL is loaded. Be careful with sharp turns and carry your load as low as practical. Use extra caution when backing up hills and turning!

I personally expect a machine to be able to lift and toss its own weight, but with that capability comes the need for caution. Ballast in the rears and always attaching a heavy rear implement when using the FEL are an important part.

They are berry much! I think for now I will get a bush hog and a box I can load with sand and have in the back.

most of the time having a 3pt implement on will be enough weight. Though if you feel the rear end getting light or losing traction (you can test this by using 2wd) you can add some weight if needed.

Just remember your driving around with a tail. I have repaired several bent 3pt arms when ppl forget and snag a tree when turning... one more benefit of loaded rear tires.
