Hauled a fairly heavy load this afternoon.
The truck handled it ok, but it seemed a little tongue heavy.
Should I have been using chains for this large of a load?
Should I have moved it back towards the axle?

You need more truck, at least a dually with that kind of tongue weight. :D

I really hope you used a weight distributing hitch for that load. You probably tested the outer limits of your hitch and suspension. :p:laughing:

You will get less wind resistance and better fuel mileage if you turn it around and re-strap it.

For those who are interested, the reason I used that many straps was that we had just moved a small piano, a bed and another chair on that trailer and it was easier to just strap that chair down with the straps than to coil them up.

Stuff like this makes me scared to be on the road! Until you get a bigger truck, you should should stop hauling loads like that. It was mentioned above that you should have a duely. I actually don't think a 1 ton is enough. I'd recomment a Class 4 or maybe Class 5 for that kind of load.

Just because you can get it moving doesn't mean you can stop it!
