Hi tom and Charlie, thanks for the welcome back!
Eddie, you are right about taking trees out. That one would've been dangerous to leave in there. Plus it sort of blocked that bay door a bit unless you were lined up just right to get into the barn. The branch that fell off was about 2 feet in diameter, so it could have crushed something.

Hey David, how do you like the shed so far? Do you have any special ideas for yours?? I know your building site is more difficult than mine, but you've got some great spots in between the timber.

Rob,
I love it! I have some large bolders between 500 and 1000LB I pulled off the side of the ridge to use in our landscaping. Maybe I can use a couple in the walls:D. I have considered one like you have built and one like the attached photo. Still trying to decide. If I do the western type store front I may do two, but need to keep enough room for the greenhouse...yet another project.
And of course the pole barn/workshop...but need to wait on my son to get out of college,2 more years.

I need to post a few of my projects: rock wall, raised beds, small patio for fountain; but not having high speed at home makes it tough to get online...but we will have it soon.

I basically suffer from MPD.... MULTIPLE PROJECT DISORDER:laughing:

I will share another project I happen to have pictures of. I started carving tiki sculptures and making bird baths when the temp is 90+ degrees. Working in AC all day make it tough to work out in the heat so I do this in the basement after work...MPD:( just can't sit, must be doing something.

It was a hot summer, and I had never done concrete slab work before, so waited a long time after the prep work to get concrete until it cooled down a bit. One of the construction workers who worked on the log home had become friends with me. I asked him to help me with the slab work. It was a return favor because I had repaired a rifle for him earlier that year.
The concrete truck came up early on a Saturday morning, and the driver even helped in spreading the concrete. Dan, Loretta and I worked the rest of the morning on getting it tamped and screeded and floating it.

We had the "J" bolts in and all the drains that were to be in the concrete set at the right height to access later. You can see where some of the drains and water come into the slab.

As the day went by, it started to look better and better.

I had even made some forms for steps, because they told me they were bringing out 2-1/2 yards and I only needed 2.2 yards. So knowing that, I built them for what would be the excess, but you can see I missed by a couple feet and quickly had to modify the forms.
Loretta thought it would be a good idea to put some rocks into the steps for decoration.
Then I remembered Wesley had made some plaster cast foot prints from a raccoon years ago, so I got the cast and pushed them into the steps too.

There is also a photo is of Dan and me relaxing in my (now messy) barn, after a hard day's work.
That was back in November of 2010. Not only by choice, but also because of circumstances, we let the pad cure for a long time. The last photo was taken about 3 or 4 months after we poured the slab. You can see how the weather and growth around the site has changed. There was a lot of other little chores to do in the interim, and there was lots of rain anyway.
Now it was Spring already and my son Tom had moved in with us.

David, those bird baths are cool!
And yes, I suffer from the same MPD you have, lol.
Good luck using those boulders man, because although it looks cool and it was the lesser of two evils, it was a real PITA for me to get it all square. Of course you are probably smarter than me, so you should have no problem. But for this old ******, it was a challenge, hahaha.:
All in all, I'm glad I did it and it turned out good. I'm glad you like!!

Like you, having slow internet was a deterrent and that's one reason I stopped posting for a while. It was too frustrating waiting for photos to load up (and down) and often would lose the connection. Our "Air Card" cell phone technology works pretty good now.
Oh, and I am right in between spells of MPD :D So I have some time to spend on the computer again.

Rob,

You now have me thinking about a concrete slab for the garden shed. How thick is yours, 6"? I was planning on putting a wood floor just incase I needed to move it some day futher back as I clear a little more forest:D. I need to look at the cost difference for slab verses wood floor. I am thinking about 10x12, 10x16, or 10x20. And also the possibility of two 10x12's.

Pre-formed steps...what a great idea.

Glad you are back working on the home projects, Rob. Don't forget to
leave time for the World AG Expo.
