Branson 4220
I own a Branson 4220 with the BL20A loader. I'd like to add top and tilt, and I'm finding lots of general information, but not much specific. I guess what I REALLY need to know is whether the control for the FEL will allow for "power beyond". Can I just tap off that control and run a new hydraulic line to a controller for top & tilt, or must it be modified or replaced? On the Branson 4220 is there a better place to tap the hydraulics for my purpose?

I bought a backhoe with the tractor, so there are quick disconnects at three point hitch for the backhoe, but those power the threepoint. But since there is obviously hydraulic power there all the time, can I just "t" off the supply line to another controller?

I'd sure like to hear from someone who has added tilt and top to his Branson tractor himself. I've got more time than money, and would prefer to do as much of the work as I can myself without spending the money the dealer wants to install it.

Thanks!

You can never T into the pressure side of a hydraulic line. You can run your remotes off of the lines that you have.
Run the pressure side to the new valve.
Run the PB back to the return side of you existing set of hoses.
Run the return line from your new valve to the tank. Here you can T into another existing return to tank line.

A complete "TnT" set built with 2 1/2" dia cylinders with 1 1/2" dia rods would run you $575 + shipping.
A complete set consists of the following.
a top link
a side link
4-36" hoses with 1/2" AG quick disconnect fittings
2- hydraulic flow restrictor fittings

Thanks Brian,

I am interested and e-mailed you.

I hate showing my ignorance, but in your reply you said I can run the remotes "off the lines that I have". Are you talking about the lines at the back of the tractor to which I now connect the backhoe when I use it?

Thanks,

Darrell

Hydraulic lines are plumbed in series for the pressure side. For return lines they can be Ted in.

Yes, you should be able to do everything from those outlets that you currently use for your back hoe.

High up on the right hand side of the rear axle there is a pair of ports connected by banjo bolts and a very short piece if steel tube, an inch or so.
THOSE are where you can tap into for rear hydraulics and a block with 4 pairs of Prince valves have not been too many for me.
Figure top/tilt take up two, anything with two cylinders (e.g. stump grinder) take up two - FULL HOUSE.
See old threads on this, some by me (ignore those) where you can get the thread specs for the hose ends you will need.

I think of these ports as "power BEFORE", since the flow is through those BEFORE it goes just about anywhere else, i.e. FEL.
I doubt that this term is standard tractorspeak though (-:

BTW, your hoe outlets are already tagged onto the FEL power beyond.
I only know this because my small tractor is a similar Kukje 42 HP and I installed the hoe myself.

Long story, I bought the hoe from the now defunct American Jawa importer (Century name brander) as NOS -new old stock and hauled it home about 400 miles in a horse trailer.
I had taken horses to a town nearby the day before, so I didn't do an 800 mile round trip JUST to get this.
No horses in the trailer coming back, so it didn't get kicked, bitten, or pee'd on (-:
