Rubber edges for back blade and front end loader?

Can one of you guys with the PVC pipe get us a few pitcutres? I'm having trouble envisioning how that would work.

While in the farm supply store today I noticed that they have hay baler belting, in rolls. It came in various sizes 4" to 10" I bought 8' and will bolt it to my 7' blade. I am having trouble finding ABS pipe.

split on the long edge, then slide over the blade like a sheath.

you may find that you have to cut 2-3 slits in the bottom edge and then use a piece of bailing wire up in those slits to tie up and over the top of the blade edge to hold the pvc on.

without the slits, the bailing wire will ride ont he cround and get ground off fast.. with ttheslits it can set in 1/4" and still hold the pvc.. etc..

How long will the PVC last? it will grind off also I suspect...

I think I like the rubber horse stall mat idea, but PVC is cheaper...

I'm going to do this for my gravel just so I can avoid digging potholes...

as cheap as pvc is.. who cares if it grinds off.. get more.. couple bucks a stick..

If you are going to try the PVC method, if you can find it, the ABS plastic works better because it does not get as brittle in the cold. Some counties do not allow it, so the stores don't sell it. In the county where I live, they carry it in Home depot but not in the county where I work. It is the black plastic that looks like PVC.

I tried the PVC method,it worked but not very long.I bought a horsemat at TSC and cut it about 6"wide and the length of my rear blade.I used a jigsaw to cut it.I used a hole saw to cut the holes where the bolts holding the cutting edge of the blade bolt on to the blade itself.I had to buy longer bolts because of the added thickness of the rubber.I then sandwiched the rubber between the blade and cutting edge.I bought the longer bolts at john deer dealer.I used it most of last winter and it's still good for this winter.I took the rubber off this summer to use my blade . russ

Ahh....I see th concept now. Thanks for the clarification! What diameter pipe did you use?

i used stall matting when i made a soft egge on a plade.. however i have seem people use 1" to 2" pipe.. IMHO.. the larger pipe looked easier to work with..
