I love that nobody knows about certain good saws out there. :laughing: Had to put in another piston today after a tear down to see what was up with the stuck ring.
These saws were way ahead of their time IMO. 1984 Partner 5000 plus and I had a 1979 5000 open port that was strong or stronger. This makes about 15 or more of these I have had now. Keeping a few back, well maybe.

I really like the guys that pass on the Poulan Pro 325 which is a Partner 5500. :licking::laughing:

I hear you, same around here...I have a backlog of 15 or so saws to fix and sell over the fall and winter, including a couple of the poulan pros...if things ever slow down.

I'm tossing up the idea :drool: of buying another jonsered 490 that runs but has a stuck ring and some scoring at the moment. Sight unseen just emails so far.

Got a counter vibe 3400 and a running 3700, bunch of old macs, a comet, a mono, some old homies and a couple of Sears branded saws. For work around my place I have a stihl wood boss, cutoff saw and an Echo CS8000

Under a few of my poulans 4000 505 415 3750 is a JD 800V colored echo 8000. Poulan 475 is still in project stage.

All my Macs I pass on to Al Smith. Just past him a near mint Pro Mac 805

I was ask to post some pics of what a 028 super and 026 pro look like side by side.

The 028 super is a oem piston rebuild and all stock, the 026 pro is woods ported with domed pop piston.

I couldnt pass up making a heated handle version of the newest 5000. Had a set of handles and muffler with to short tubes I made work for now till I get a new set.

So is that actually routing some of the exhaust gases through the tube, which is inside the handle?? NEAT idea but wouldn't the heat melt the tubing?? Or is it not as hot as I'm thinking it would be???

It is exhaust gases through the tubing and is adjustable to how much you want for heat. The oem tubing is some kind of silicon tubing I would guess.

Works great on 490 5000 top handle and rear handle. My 346xpg new type heated handle is just top handle I think and carb.

I agree about the Partner 5000. I have 3, 5000 plus's 2 I bought and 1 I made from a huge pile of parts I have.
I have enough to make another one but I will need a Chain Brake side cover. I have owned one of these since the mid 80's. I cut and saw up 6 cords of rock maple yellow birch and beach for fire wood every year.These saws are pretty awsome.
Poulan made a saw similar to the 5000 soon after the buy out of Partner.What was that type of saw? I want to say 325 or somthing .My brother had one but it constantly was striping the recoil dogs off so he took a trade in on a Husky.Did they ever fix this recoil problem? The saw shop in my area admited it was a problem but at that time there was no fix. Oh well glad to see the Partners are apreaciated by other's as well.

Yep the Poulan Partner 325 is 53cc 46mm bore where the 5000 was 44mm bore 49cc.
I have one and there was a type 1 closed port like 5000 plus and type 2 was open port like early 5000 and 500.
I have never had problems with recoil on my type 1. But I could see how it is possible, my type 1 has some serious psi.

Were the electrical tape is at on the cord , I would think that the cord got in the way while it was in action .:thumbsup:

If you think about it , That is kind of cool looking . Home Built confused, I would assume , But Dang , Still pretty cool .

I cant imagine how he was running it, but with the shape/location of the handle and trigger, it appears that it is upside-down in the photo. In which case it also appears that the chain is on backwards.

Really :laughing: I dont think the chain turns fast enough on the pedaling to warrant a auto oiler. I would imagine someone pours a little lube on before the cut starts.

That depends on how fast you pedal now doesnt it

It appears (just guessing) that there is a 1:4 ratio from the pedals to the shaft, and another 1:4 from the shaft to the bar.

total ratio of 16:1.

To get 8000rpm's worth at the chain (just a good average for in-the-cut chainsaw), he would only need to pedal that thing 500RPM:thumbsup:
