My point is, some dealers make their own fortunes by going above and beyond.

Sure they have every right to close when they want, but they also have every right to make a customer for life by going above and beyond

Either way it's dealer's choice and they ought not to have to take flack because they decide to do what independent business owner's do- make their own decisions because they own their own business.
And customers can be made for life without being open on religious holidays like Christmas.

I don't see it as being "open" on a religious holiday ... I see it as helping bring the holiday to the fullest by going the extra mile to make someone feel extra special on Christmas.

Heck, they might not even have to open up the gates at the shop, cause "Santa" probably took it home with him, and will deliver it AFTER his kids have opened up their presents. Especially IF the driver lives on the way to the new owner's house, and has room to park the rig at the house (whatever size outfit they haul them on).
Customer service is what makes customer's happy, and if your not on the top of the food chain, makes your boss happy if you made the customer happy.
We got a "heads up" from one of our customers that we would be swamped with loads on Friday before I left on vacation. I was standing there when my boss told his boss, and his boss immediatly pointed at me (since I was shaking my head NO) and said I volunteered for the first one. I got a call from my boss on Thursday evening, telling me he may need me on Friday. Sure enough, we got more loads than we have drivers, and some were running multiple short loads. I never considered not going in, though nobody expected me to give up my vacation, it was just something that had to be done in order to keep the customer happy. When I picked up my load, the clerk mentioned she hadn't seen me all week. I told her why, and she said no way would she have done that. I told her I wasn't doing anything, just burning up vacation time, and that if they had missed a load because I didn't want to work, I would have felt bad. I think she understood. I know my boss appreciated it, but he shows it all year.

So one is to infer only 'GOOD' dealers are open on Christmas?!:confused2:
Right; give it a rest....

That is exactly the problem- NOT everything is about the way YOU see it.
Dealers serve their customers all year long - if they CHOOSE to take Christmas off that's their choice, not yours or anyone else's.
If you were a dealer you'd already know this.

Open on Christmas, no, not likely. However, if the wife were buying you a special present that cost that much money, and she really wanted to get the full surprise effect out of it, and one of your guys already said that he wasn't going "home" for Christmas, would it hurt to ask him if he minded dropping the tractor off after he got up? Some people don't mind stepping a few steps out of the norm for customer support, and doing that on Christmas day would NEVER be forgotten by the new owner.
As far as opening up the store, nah... don't think so. Making this a deciding factor as to whether or not the dealer in question is a "good" dealer, nope. Just goes to show that when possible, he is willing to try to help out his customers.

If my wife bought me a tractor and the dealer went thru the hoops to get it to me on Christmas day, I wouldn't forget it anytime soon.

If a woman told me I was delivering on Christmas day I'd feel threatened enough to do it:laughing::laughing:

That will be one great Christmas surprise though!

Maybe I'll have a nice new 4520 with all the options showing up at my door tomorrow! - I'm not going to hold my breath though.

No, it wouldn't hurt- it's about those who EXPECT it to be done and rule that the dealer should be shunned, or another dealer should be used instead of the BAD dealer who won't choose to accommodate unreasonable potential customers. Some people don't mind stepping a few steps out of the norm for customer support, and doing that on Christmas day would NEVER be forgotten by the new owner.

The wife is giving the gift of the tractor, and the dealer is giving the gift of a delivery on Christmas morning. Both are sure to be received as special. True spirit of the holiday. :) Giving!
