Yes, push the joystick forward and the top link will float.

About the fuel mileage I doubt the fold up ramps will make enough difference to detect. The idea that the ramp or ramps will make 4-5 mpg difference is BS.

About the exhaust, I block my 4520 when moving at highway speeds with a piece of foam rubber shoved in the outlet. Nothing to worry about with the 110 as it is non turbo (naturally aspirated). I was just pointing out that other things had more significance than the aerodynamics issue.

My 5000'th post:thumbsup:

Ok, thanks. That should work well then.

When I was shopping for a trailer originally - before I had all these wonderful people on TBN to help me:thumbsup: - I asked the only person I knew with that type of ramp what he'd thought about it and he said I should avoid it like the plague - said that he could really feel the wind pushing against it and saw a significant drop in mileage. He hasn't always been the most reliable source though.

Congratulations on your 5000th - officially a super star member!

I will have more info on Monday as this guy is supposed to get back with me to see if he wants to buy something, if so I will be in the clear for this 110! He's wanted it for a while but we will see.

Merry Christmas to all!

Personally, I don't like the fold-up ramps. They're always in the way... Either they're sticking up in the air and making it harder to load or unload non-mobile materials or they're laying on the ground and if you're trying to load or unload something from the back... well, you can't get close enough to the back of the trailer!

Nope, I'll take the removeable ramps!

Congrats - Steve - on your 5,000th post! Always look forward to reading what you've got to say.

Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

I'm starting to make a list of everything that I plan on asking the dealer - I always seem to forget something so if I write it down I figure I'll remember but I would like to know what are some things I should ask the dealer.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

To add on to my last post I've been looking at what few trailers are on line. I have found one that looks pretty good - needs a piece of wood or two and a brake light remounted but for only $2800 it seems pretty reasonable. It is a pintle hitch though and I've never used one of them - better or worse than a ball? Advantages or disadvantages? And the best thing is it's right next to me and is at the same dealer as I found the box blade at. I was thinking of asking for a package deal for around $4k. Should I go higher or lower?

Here's the trailer:

There's also this one at the same place but is a larger older trailer for more money not sure that I would need this much:
1999 TOWMASTER Tag Trailers For Sale At TruckPaper.com

Any advise between the two will be appreciated!

On that second trailer...I'd be leery of anything rated at 15# with six lug wheels. Maybe the axles were changed out for something lighter?

Here's a little reading for you on pintle hitches. http://www.thedieselstop.com/archives/ubbthreads/Towing1/showflat.php-Cat=&Number=2263551&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1.htm

Yea, not really feeling the second trailer. I feel I can get those couple boards and fix that light for way less and have a newer trailer and will not have any use for the extra 1500 pound capacity.

Thanks for that. It's pretty much what I assumed. Would be easier not having to line the ball up but how much of a difference do you see in the "slop"?

You will usually see more slop in the combo type pintle hitches. With the height of your truck the only thing I'd worry about would be the drop needed. The trailer's pintle eye looks to have quite a bit of adjustability, so that probably wouldn't be a concern. Here's a link to see the different types of setups available.

Ok. I won't go for the combo then. Problem is I looked at tsc (online) where I usually can find stuff like that but they only have the combo so I'll either have to go hunting or get one from online. Would you get one where you can adjust with the bolts or just the standard one that just comes straight out of the receiver?

Thanks!

I was quoted $3700 for a new 20' bumper pull Big Tex brand 10PI with slide in ramps from Southwest Trailers recently. Didn't feel like it was a bargain but compared to a used trailer for $2800 that needs work maybe it wasn't bad.
