I had the day off today, so what better to do than to visit every dealership within 100 miles of me? Stopped at the Kubota dealer and this thing really caught my eye, never seen a utility tractor with tracks in person before. So I figured I'd snap a couple pictures for my picture loving friends here on TBN:thumbsup:

How practical really is a set up like this? I've really never seen any so how much would you benefit?

That tractor isn't classified as a Utility tractor, Kubota calls it a Mid-Size Ag.
I would call it a small Row Crop. TractorData classifies it as a Row Crop.

If run the Build My Kubota, it's $78,834.00 w/o options. If you run the same
tractor as a Wheeled tractor it's $69,044.00 w/o options. Our dealer has the
Power Krawler in stock.

The M9540 and below is classified as Utility. A friend of mine just ordered a
JD5115M 115hp sounds like it should be a Row Crop but it's a Utility. I'm not
sure where the tipping point is between the Utility and the Row Crop is, it's
not always HP, my gut feeling is wheelbase and weight. Even though the
5115M my friend ordered has more HP than the 5140 the Deere weighs
about 2500lbs. less

Kubota don't make the ones on there tractors ether. There just factory installed.

The only thing that Kubota doesn't build is the track!!!!!! They use simular systems on nearly all models of their tractors in the orient and have for about ten years now with just recently bringing them into the US market.

That does not look like a oem solution. Is that offered by New Holland, or is that in an aftermarket booth? There is an aftermarket company in Canada that will put tracks on everything from 4-wheelers, small tractors, mid-size trators, pick-up trucks, etc. Philip.

I saw aftermarket track company when I was at an oil and gas show in Calgary. They had big display with 4-wheelers, tractors, and trucks. Used alot in the gas/oil patch north of Edmunton. Just can't remember name of company. Philip.

FYI.. Kubota is the OEM, its an all Kubota system.

Hey guys, this stuff isn't new....been out there for years. It's fairly proven at this point, regardless of who actually makes it.

It's definitely cool. No point though in debating it's merit based on who manufactured it. There are more than a few manufactures. Check out the Case Ih quad track. John Deere actually builds a high speed dozer in their industrial line now - 4 triangular tracks. John Deere Ag is a bit different, as is Cat with one large track.

4. Cat challenger (I believe - don't quote me on this - also labeled for Claas)

As previously stated, the main benefit is less ground pressure/less compaction.

They also fit tracks to combines.

Cat doesn't make the Challenger anymore. They sold it off to AGCO several years ago altHough AGCO still uses Cat engines and sells through Cat dealers. The name is now Challenger powered by Cat. Cat decided that in ag they were a better fit as a component supplier so it also has a Cat transmission.
