Abandoned concrete grain silos

I have one on my property.

It has a nice tree coming out the top.

I have thought about making a rock climbing wall out of it, or topping it off with a telescope. I'll need at least 2k to put it a circular steel staircase on the inside.

It is on the to-do list.

My neighbor's cement stave silo collapsed a few more months back, taking out two of his Harvestor silos. All of them were active and full. What a mess!

If I had one I'd make an observatory out of it with a nice rotating roof!

I have a couple decent telescopes that I can't get higher than the trees.

This is one on my place. I think it's from the mid to late 50's. Was for my great grandfathers dairy. I use it for burning now. Have cleared a lot of brush with it. I have open fires but they can't be large. I can stuff this thing with a lot. Light at night is the rule. With a good wind.

I would like to eventually put a gazebo or something similar on top. The wife insists I have it structurally inspected first, since it has been a redneck chiminea for 20 years;-).

The chimney fires might be rough on future uses of the concrete.

I was wondering how the heat cycles would affect strength

I forgot to mention when my friend bought the farm and silo that he had me come over with the kid steer. He wanted me to dig out all the old composted silage in one big one. He said there was one big plant he didnt know what ewas in it and some funny lights on the wall. Instead of going up to the door and looking at the plants I figured they were just trees inside them. I was working a while and loadingm y dump truck a fgew loads. When I broke through to the top layers I found a huge Marijuana plant and several mediums. We called the law on that one. THe old timer that had owned the place and passed away had alot of new things. We figured frome the plant spacings he had 100 plants in the one silo.

I always wondered what kind of reaction you would get from the law if you called them about that kind of stuff on your own property. Guess it depends on the officer.
