Naw, it's the snow birds that drive like that or transplants with Fl. tags :) however, the hanging chads were all occurring in South Fl, note that both contestants are from North Fl.

Also, before I get ganged up here, I was searching for similar instances and found Monkeyrack Products | Affordable, Efficient Vehicle/Ladder Stabilizing Product
And yes BeezFun, there made right here in Florida.:D

OMG.... now ive seen evertthing. I hope the truck doesnt have a keyless start system

Well now, how would you be able to relocate without climbing down the ladder.

The person who conceived this setup has nowhere to go but up.

My dad was born and grew up on a farm right on the Georgia border near Chattahoochee. I think I got the getting high in crazy ways gene from him. (I suppose that triggered red flags at the DEA.)

MythBusters Episode 50: Bullets Fired Up
In the case of a bullet fired at a precisely vertical angle (something extremely difficult for a human being to duplicate), the bullet would tumble, lose its spin, and fall at a much slower speed due to terminal velocity and is therefore rendered less than lethal on impact. However, if a bullet is fired upward at a non-vertical angle (a far more probable possibility), it will maintain its spin and will reach a high enough speed to be lethal on impact. Because of this potentiality, firing a gun into the air is illegal in most states, and even in the states that it is legal, it is not recommended by the police. Also the MythBusters were able to identify two people who had been injured by falling bullets, one of them fatally injured. To date, this is the only myth to receive all three ratings at the same time.

Hatcher's work was flawed, he only looked at ft lbs of energy developed by the falling projectile. A later study actually tested with cadavers, tested the effective penetration.

The Straight Dope: Can a bullet fired into the air kill someone when it comes down?

Everyone points to terminal velocity as something that is going to make the falling projectile some how safe?

It means the object will fall as fast as it possibly can, until it's weight equals the air's resistance. in the case a heavy compact bullet it could be over 300 feet per second. That will penetrate your cranium, I believe.

That's just using .30 cal. 50. cal would have greater force

The big problem with the loader mounted ladder or those monkey rack things, is if you should fall the injuries would be greatly compounded by landing on the loader or truck.

So it's not the way the ladder looks or how unconventional the idea is, that makes it any more dangerous than a ladder propped against a solid structure.
It's the hazardous landing zone.

I work in high and hazardous places, but those odd ladder set ups would have me more concerned about my safety, even though they are relatively not that high.

I know this thread has slid to poking fun at Bep's & my setup, I think I can speak for both of us, that we do not utilize the tools we have in an haphazard manor.

Yes, they may be unconventional but I do anticipate all "what if" scenarios that I could think might happen. As stated, a fall onto the loader from even this low height could maim or worse.

This is why I always have a forward angle in the event such happened. Personalty, I think the danger comes in when cutting large limbs and trying to predict their trajectory and getting on the road to travel.

Again, we have had a few good lighthearted laughs but when I'm on my rig, I am constantly thinking, "Did I pay my life insurance premiums to date?"

Anyhow, just wanted to clear the air about my Redneck Monkey Climber. Carry on...

Hire an insured tree trimmer - the 30' fall and hospital stay (if you're lucky) aren't worth it.

Interesting thread.....

OK , this competion is so educational and fun i can't just yet declare a winner...as of now it seems too close to call

Gonna have to see photos of Bep's final solution with him in action, hopefully video, of course, there could be a new arrival to the competion. And of late we have gotten lessons in how folks aspiring to high places while avowing conservative positions often have meteroic rise and falls....so while it seems that innovative rigging is florida centric, this is America and we gotta have time for others to file their competive photos:)

Entries must be fron people personally willing to climb the ladder to achieve success which is verifible...no self proclaimed "mission accomplished" statements allowed!

I've hired 3 tree trimmers. The first cut down the wrong tree. The second came while I was at work and dropped the tree on the house, sheared the gas meter right off the building. Whole fire dept was out there evacuating the neighbors and waiting for the gas company to shut things off. The third one was supposed to leave the wood for my fireplace, he left a few pieces and took the rest. Hiring a "pro" is not without some risk.
