I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the cab but I think about the only option is when you are using the BH is to take the rear window off to have access to the cab. I don't see how you can reach the fel with the window on. I also don't know how easy/hard it will be to get it off, but maybe someone else can help with that.

I confused about (or aboot for you Canadians) all the hype over vertical vs horizontal exhausts myself.

My old JD870 had a vertical exhaust stack that made the left loader arm all black and soot coated.

My new exhaust is way out front and turned out so as not to mark up anything

so whats the reason for changing them in the first place???

I wish my JD 6415 had the down exhaust (way too expensive thru parts) so one less thing to worry about hit tree limbs with. Also it's 9' from the ground to the tip.

I suspect with the window open (it tilts up and out from the top) you can reach in similar to an open station tractor. I was curious whether the rear seat is close enough to allow you to stay seated and operate the fel joystick.

Curious if you have the rear creep to reposition control do you also have a seat presence switch on the rear seat?

Got the official quote, and is within reason. I can trade my current tractor in, but he said I'd do much better selling it myself as what I wanted for it appeared reasonable for our market, but the fellow who does the used purchasing would only go by book value.

So, now it's a waiting game to see if it sells or not I guess. Winter isn't exactly the best time to sell a tractor, but with tax returns coming in soon who knows.

Put it on Cragslist and you might be surprised. I have seen two New Holland tractor's sell in the pass three weeks: my 2010 Boomer 3040 and a friend's 2003 TC35D w/1100 hours.

I've done just that. I need to get some better images though. I put it up on the Yanmar board here as well. I think my price is reasonable, but it's hard to say. Salesmen thought it was, but I suppose that may be expected (though he does seem pretty honest). % off MSRP wasn't max some folk here have gotten, but close, and that's what I had heard about this dealer - fair deal, honest, great service during and especially after the sale. And said service is more important to me than a few hundred dollars.

In case anyone is curious what I'm selling:

Here are the basics:
-1983 Yanmar YM336D, powershift (like shuttle shift - 4 ranges, then R-1-2-3 without clutching)
-4wd, 33hp
-loader with two buckets (one with teeth, one without)
-3rd hydraulic circuit on loader for grapple, etc
-Top and Tilt on the 3 point hitch run off a separate joystick
-New R1 tires past 2 years (all four)
-Rear tires loaded with RimGuard
-Tire chains (all four)
-Curtis Cab (top and windshield only - this is the "soft cab" setup. I have the curtains but they are mousey)
-5' Woods Brushhog goes with it, paint still shiny but has the normal dents from rolling rocks around inside.
-All manuals (operators, parts, and service) plus some filters, etc
-Asking $9,900

Couchsachraga,

You may want to put it on the "private party" listings forum here on TBN.

Jenkinsph,

Looked for a good picture of a 4x20 series with a backhoe mounted and HERE'S a 4720 with a good view. You can't see any Creep to Repo but I don't see much possibility of opening that back window. You will know better than I on how far it opens, but from what I've seen it's only 30-50 degrees and that wouldn't be nearly enough. Even with it at 90 I could see it being bothersome to say the least.

That's why I thought the creep-to-reposition switch would be mounted on a new version of the 485 backhoe - too difficult to access thru the window.

Hadn't considered needing to work the FEL control.... but that's a definite "have-to-have-feature" to work the backhoe! Couldn't imagine not being able to set the loader bucket while adjusting the stabilizers to get a good solid position. Especially with some hard digging work!

Be very interesting to see how Deere has configured things on the new 4000 cab tractors to address the optional backhoe.

Info I've gotten from the dealer is that it plugs in to a harness in the dash, and it sounds like there is another switch in the cab to turn those controls "on". The actual control unit sounds like it mounts to the tractor and stays with the tractor even when the backhoe is removed.

Well that pretty well sums up the creep to repo button placement but I can't imagine digging with the bucket down and not being able to steer while on the BH, seems very dangerous.
