Rick,
I'll suggest finishing the outside of the house, then decide how to cover it, or leave it bare like you stated earlier. The bare "mine" is growing on me.:D

I got the West deck finished yesterday. Porch roof's next then railings. Now I need to decide on what kind of railing to build..I need about 75' of it.
I bought a LogMan Tenon Maker:
Bailey's - Logman Log Furniture Tenon Maker

& have the Forstner bits, so I am thinking one out of cedar like this:

Rick,
That is going to be so nice. I like the tangled cedar in the railing.

The deck is looking great. Here's something you might want to consider when choosing your deck/porch railing. Your best view on the north side will be looking downward toward the creek. You will have to look through the railing to see the creek. Thus, the least conspicuous railing you can construct will provide you the best view of your creek.

We moved into our house one year ago. We haven't finished our back porch/deck and railing yet. One thing we have noticed is how much we enjoy the view of our woods from our kitchen table. That has made us reconsider our railing materials because any railing will significantly obstruct our view out the back of our house and porch. We were going to do pressure treated vertical rails. But now we are considering iron railing or even plexiglass to give us the most unobstructed view of our woods.

A glass railing would be so nice. He is right, it's about the uninstructed views. I know the glass would be crazy expensive but well worth it.

Did you use joist hangers? I don't see them in your pics, but cant imagine you not using them.

I was thinking the same thing. I am puzzled by the framing of your deck, I am not saying it is wrong, I just don't understand it.

Yes, as I stated in post #727 I chose to use hangers directly attached to the logs...no header. This side of the house has a 4' overhang but will get exposed to weather, and a header would trap moisture against the logs, something I did not want. The first cross joist is 4" off the house and all joists are 2x10, deck boards 2x8.

Arrows show joist hangers and circled is where the joist is directly screwed to the end overhang logs:
