From a parental viewpoint, I would fully expect the powers that be to make sure, to whatever extent they can, that the bus driver isn't going to fall asleep while driving my child around.

From a free citizen's viewpoint, it seems reasonable to have the freedom to be as fat as you want (although I'm not).

From a free citizen's viewpoint, I also don't want to have to pay for others' choice to be fat (although I'm sure I do, & Obamacare is probably gonna make it more so)

Maybe I can't have all these "wants".

As an overweight person, maybe this process will determine that your wife is not actually qualified for this job, even though she's already been doing it.

Here's one way to look at it: If you saw your fat pilot looking sleepy or yawning, would you want to fly on his plane?

BTW, I do think that a person's weight is a reasonable characteristic to use as an indicator of a higher likelihood of sleep apnea ... although my woman is 100 lbs & she snores (not sure if she has sleep apnea, though, since I don't fully know that is)

For me, it's not the quality of my sleep thats a problem. It's the quantity, or lack of, that determines my day. I like naps BTW. Getting up at 1 am can sneak up on you. FWIW, you don't want to in the same room as me when i sleep. I have woke myself up snoring.:laughing:

I guess I don;t see it that way.

If I hire on as a truck driver or hire a truck driver the truck driver should already have the license and certs needed to do the job.

Now if it simply the company calling for the extra testing it's their job to pay for it.

To clearify: I agree on the license and certs up front. Some companies will accept a current med card then pay the next time up or some will want you to give you a fresh physical at their expense up front.

When something new comes out like the TWIC card or a passport though and you are on the job, I still think the employer should foot the bill. Or, in the case of this bus driver, an extra test while already an employee.

I understand that however she per her Dr has NO simptons(sp?) and he would have never ordered a test for her. The CDL dr or test is basing this 100% on a neck measurement

kind or like taking your car to the shop and them telling you they need to check the rings because of your tire presure

Sleep apnea is a breathing problem associated with SLEEP. Unless they're worried about your wife falling asleep behind the wheel, I think that $6K test is useless. Maybe they think she has narcolepsy.

it is something that is associated with falling asleep while driving also. because of lack of sleep while you should be sleeping.

like I have said neck size is only one of MANY things a real Dr. checks to see if he even thinks you need the test

I just ate lunch & now feel a little sleepy. Hope I don't have to pay for a $6K test to confirm it. Also glad I don't have to drive a bus full of kids around

For the life of me, i can't understand how anyone would think you would get tired, or drowsy, driving a busload of kids around.
