Will do. It will be a few days before I can test fit. I am hoping to use it on my tractor and my dads bigger JD.

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking on the site for awhile now, mainly in the build it yourself forum. I hope to build a FEL someday when time allows.

I've never seen the ratchet rake in person but was wondering if anyone thought it might be possible to mount one "upside down" on the bottom of a front grader blade and run a ratchet strap around the top of the blade? Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron, Maybe? how sharp of a cutting edge is it? I have thought about doing that too. Mounting it on a Rear Blade... I was thinking I might have to grind down when it connects, so that it would be thinner.

Also, thought about fabbing something up to hold it on the 3ph by itself (and extra weights).

Do you mean so both rows of teeth would be in contact with the ground at the same time? The RR doesn't work well in that respect when going forward mounted on the bucket, it just skips along. Lots of pressure on the loader as well.

With the tabs set up the way there are, and assuming the thickness of the cutting edge allows it, it should be possible to rotate the RR 90 degrees down to slip it on a vertical cutting edge. With it set up on a horizontal leading edge the RR is always being psuhed on. If you rotate it vertically it will always be in a position where it is trying to get rolled off/backwards. Might not last long. I think the torque on the RR/straps would be much greater and you could only use the forwards most teeth.

I'm not sure if you could get enough weight on a rear blade. Even mounted on the front with the weight of the tractor and hydraulics I could not get the RR to break through hardpan on a recent job in either direction. Lowered the scarafiers and they dug right in on the first pass.

I will add that the RR was being used as designed - lower teeth used in forward position and both sets in reverse.

Weight would be a concern... it depends on what you are going to be attacking, I guess.

PS. You can cut the tabs to fit thicker blades, too. Instruction sheet:

Thanks for the quick replies. Let me see if I can explain my thinking here.

Looking at the pic that Teg atached, it you flipped the RR end for end and rotated it 90 degrees the top mounting eyes would be on the backside of the blade. One set of teeth would still be horizontal and the other vertical (pointing down). The pic I attached might make some sense.

As far as the thickness of the blade I can't get to the tractor right now to measure it but since it's replaceable I could unbolt it for now and mount directly to the blade if need be.

Ron

I'm a little slow on the reply but that's a good point about the rake rotating on the blade. It looks like it would take some more modification to address that. Might be too much trouble

Ok, so you're thinking about mounting it so only one set of blades contacts the ground. Could work.

I've been thinking about modifying the RR to be used as a stand alone quick attachment. The bucket gets in the way more than anything.

I like the idea of a quick attach RR about 2'-3' wide to get the individual mesquites.
