Sad to say that we heard another NH dealer is closing... This is now the second one here in our area :( Sad to see that NH seems to be closing so many doors and the dealers who are open are taking on other brands. Being a NH customer, it makes things tougher because we have to travel farther to get our parts. Unfortunately, NH's network of dealers is garbage.... RE: Bought a tractor in eastern New York (best price), had major problem and was originally told I could go to any dealer for repair under warranty. Brought to a dealer close by and was told , too major of a problem and we had to ship it all the way back to NY. NY did not fix it properly. What kind of dealer network is this? If dealers want to stay in business, they need to take care of their customers and NH needs to take care of their dealers.

Yes, all the big Ag companies have discovered that large company owned stores are more profitable than supporting mom and pop businesses. I am expecting Kubota to go the route of JD, NH, et. al. in order to compete. This is not a good thing, my Kubota dealer is only 10 miles from my place and a friend. Sure is nice.

Two problems with this rant:.

1. Any New Holland dealer is supposed to be trained and equipped to service machines within the bounds of their sales contract. If they were able to price the unit and potentially sell it to you yet can't service it, they don't deserve to have the New Holland contract, period. Weeding out this type of dealer is not a bad thing, and will strengthen the dealer network over time.

2. You shop price out-of-town and expect the local dealer to give you five star service? Dealers take care of THEIR customers first; get used to it. Warranty work should not be turned down on the basis of where the tractor is purchased, but the scheduling certainly is at the descretion of the servicing dealer.

First, I agree with point #1 100%. Point #2, I wish we were aware of from the start. Our original dealer told us when we bought it that it wouldn't be a problem to take it to any NH dealer for warranty work. When we did just that, the dealer we took it to said they couldn't do the work and it needed to be brought back to the orignal dealer. I was originally under the impression that the new tractor industry was like the new car industry where you could take it to any named dealer for repair without a problem. With the tractor, we found out that a different dealer than where it was purchased doing any warranty work was only paid 60 % from NH, which makes perfect sense as to why they wouldn't want to be bothered with a large engine repair. Thanks for your insight.

All brands have this issue as far as warranty work. There is a thread going in the Kubota forum dealing with people who buy from dealers far away and from people who have moved into different areas having problems getting warranty work done.

What caught my attention in your post is that you intentionally buy a tractor from far away to save money then get upset when your local dealers go out of business. How are they suppose to stay in business if the local people are buying from dealers further away to save money?

I use to buy all Ford/NH tractors just for the convience of dealing with my local dealer (2 miles down the road). We had a falling out so now I buy what works best for me. I recently bought a Kubota and priced it through three different dealers, one of which is a few hours away. I knew if I bought that tractor from them I would be fixing any potential problems myself. I wouldn't take it to the local dealer for work but thats just my feelings. If its serious I would take it back to the further dealer for work but it would be easier to fix things on my own. In the end one of the closer dealers actually beat their price (I was surprised) so I was able to buy from a local dealer and avoid any potential problems.

Also, I noticed my local NH dealer took on Mahindra tractors after NH dropped their compact tractors in favor of the rebadged LS compacts. I believe NH is more worried about their ag tractors and equipment more so then the compact line. They have a full line of equipment for farms and have been spending a lot to stay on top of that market. The compact tractors were just not as big a profit for them as the rest of their line so they made decisions to try and improve the bottom line.

What I wish they would do is improve their quality control. The vineyard market around here use to be dominated by Ford/NH but between the local dealers attitude and the problems everyone is having with the vineyard tractors you don't see too many New Hollands anymore. John Deere is big now and Kubota is starting to take a larger market share.

NH warranty pays the same for a particular repair regardless of whether the repair is made by the selling dealer, or any other authorized dealer.

Rick, I wonder if that dealer who mentioned 60% was basically trying to say the dealers only make 60% of what they should make on the repairs. It seems to be a common theme among the dealers on here that any of the OEMs don't pay enough to cover warranty work to the point of where they lose money. 60% seems like it would be at that point to where they would be losing money.

Do you have any experience with the billing side of things to know how much of the actual cost of a warranty repair is reimbursed?

I understand this and maybe worded it wrong, but my question is why would I be told I could bring it anywhere from the original dealer for the warranty work, but then be told it had to go back to the original dealer by even the area's NH representative? I feel as though I wasn't being honest with from the get-go....

If I were a dealer and only received the 60 %, I wouldn't want to do the work on it either. I think the problem is, NH, or any brand for that matter, should stand behind there product 100% and should an issue arise, they should be willing to cover it 100%.
