To all of those commenting on the pto binding, it depends on the tractor and the ratio of pto shaft to 3 point arm length and the location of the pins on the blower, not a universal thing, which is why you check it when setting up..

This is the correct comment. Every tractor and impliment combo is different. There is a whole bunch of complicated geometry going on with the 3ph. You need to hook up the impliment and watch the shaft telescope as you rise and lower the 3ph. You will then be able to see when the shaft is shortest - It is the only sure way.

I had play in the PTO shaft in the full down position also. When I get it back together I will check at the mid point.

In retrospect, at some point in the lift arc, the PTO shaft ends became an interference fit. That's the only thing that will crack a right angle housing and destroy a carrier bearing like that. Not the tarp would around the impeller flighting. The tarp may have added to the demise but ir was not the root cause.

Curious as to what the dealer says.........

personally I am a bit dismayed at the honesty or lack of on this forum regarding how to approach warranty.

it is not that surprising to me that the shear pins did not break. they are not a guaranty of saving ones equipment.

shear pins are designed to break under impact loading.

pulling in a tarp would generate a slow draw and a shear pin may or not break before other damage occurs.

I hope the dealers helps you out but I do not see that there is any requirement that he does.

best of luck

If I were going to play dumb I would not be posting it on TBN

My two cents
I believe as the tarp wraped up the drive train was put in a loaded condition. The blower was probably jumping around or the operator tried to lift it. Because the drive train was loaded (but not turning or turning a little) the spline shaft would not slip and was driven into the gearbox. El busto.

The shear pins did not see enough load to break.

I test aircraft parts. I get paid to bust stuff.

I still don't think there was an interference fit as you suggest. If the PTO had been driven into the gear box the paint on the seal would have been completely wiped off all the way around and not just on the side that the imput shaft is angled towards. I was up front with the dealer and told him exactly what happened with the tarp. The good news is Pronovost is sending me a new gear box. That's what I call an excellent company to do business with.

That is great they are going to hook you up. That is a good company.
It is hard to say what exactly happened and we are all guessing.
